David runs down the stairs before I could even comprehend what was happening.

With my heart racing I storm down the stairs as well, only to realise what a huge mistake that had been.

David stands still, chest heaving but eyes bulging, staring into the lab from the top of the stairs I had not yet reached.

"David?" I whisper lowly, taking a slow step closer but he stops me.

At first he slowly and quietly backs away, then he briskly walks towards me, barely creating a sound and firmly grasps my wrist.

I force myself to not wince and watch as he brings a finger to his lips, motioning for me to be very quiet.

I nod, my heart rampaging underneath my ribcage. His usually brilliant brown eyes were strict with terror and I knew something was very wrong.

David tugs me away from the lab, making way for the exit when we realise something is watching us from the window beside the entrance door.

Glowing red eyes pierced right through us making us rigid with horror. A large snout bared it's yellowed teeth at us, and then a claw slammed into window, shattering it just as David yanked me away.

We sprinted up the stairs as fast as our legs could take us, the wood loudly creaking under the soles of our boots. I clenched my teeth to stop myself from screaming out loud, and blinked out the tears of fright that blurred my vision.

Another smash at the window and we knew the creature was inside now.

David looked around the room for places to hide before settling on the wardrobe. Yanking open the door he shoved me inside, then crawled in too, shutting the door quietly.

Inside, he throws the clean clothes and undergarments over us in an attempt to mask our scent.

Creaking sounds at the stairs and we hold our breaths.

With my whole body shaking from anxiety, I inch towards David and hold him hard.

The creature grows closer and closer to us, I hear it's padded feet over the wooden boards of our room. We watch through the thin slits of the wardrobe as it pauses for a second and lifts it's nose into the air. It sniffs.

Then it swivels it's head to the wardrobe we're in and I swear in that second my heart stopped for a few seconds before galloping once more. Painfully.

David's hand in mine was slick with sweat, but his grip was so tight that it felt like it was cutting of my circulation.

The werewolf starts to stalk towards where we are, it's glowing eyes seemingly staring right into mine.

My lips trembles and tears freely flow down my cheeks.

This is it, this is how it ends.

I shut my eyes and force myself to pretend I'm somewhere else, somewhere beautiful and nostalgic.

The park where my dad last took us to, with the beautiful oak trees and green fields he promised we'd come back to sometime for a picnic. Mom laughed so much that day.

Closer, the werewolf was right outside the door of the wardrobe. I could feel it's hot breath through the slits but I didn't dare open my eyes.

David shifted and protectively put me under his own trembling arms.

Suddenly I couldn't concentrate on my daydream anymore. Suddenly everything became too much of a reality.

It's heavy breathing sent heavy shivers up and down my spine.
