"Okay, someone went hella far for this prank," I mumbled as the heart shaped key on my necklace clicked right into the little lock that bound Magix closed.
"Locks, are you sure you don't want me to check it out first? You don't know what kind of things could've been directed at you."
I muttered an unsure "yeah" and turned the key, butterflies seemingly unraveling their wings in my stomach.
Magix flung open in a manner that surely must have defied physics making me yelp and drop it onto David's fluffy white rug.
Everything seemed to have stilled all of a sudden, the world became deadly silent. I thought I was imagining it all but then turned to David who looked quite puzzled himself.
"Um, is it just me or did the world just shut down?" David laughed breathily. "Careful Locks, you don't know what kind of magic you're unveiling there, " he joked.
"Real spooky, Wood, real spooky." I rolled my eyes at him and picked up the book, my throat feeling tight.
The leathery cover of the book felt cold to the touch as I skimmed through it's pages. "Huh, that's funny," I muttered more to myself than to David but he had heard me.
"What is it?"
"It's basically empty." I turned the book around and flipped through the pages to show him.
"Maybe it's writings are in invisible ink?" He suggested then furrowed his brows, "Wait Locks, there's something on the first page, you Dummy."
I went to the first page and realised I had not noticed the small writing scrawled in beautiful longhand inscription.
I could have sworn it was not there just a second ago.
"And when thine eyes flutter and shut,
The world as you know will cripple and corrupt.
A flicker of black and the skies you love will perish,
A new world will wait for you,
For your powers they would envy or cherish.""Is that like a poem someone infatuated with you wrote?" David grumbled.
Suddenly feeling like the situation seemed all too silly I let out a laugh, my nervousness ebbing away.
"What are we doing, David? That keyhole could probably fit any heart shaped key. Someone must have seen me wear it sometime and thought this would be a funny prank," I paused "or a very romantic confession of love." I sighed in a mock dreamy tone and let out another laugh.
David rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath, but before he could say anything a piercing headache seemed to tear at my skull.
I let out a scream that seemed to be silent to my own ears and reached for my head before darkness pooled into my vision.

"Locks?" David's soft voice came through what seemed like an eternal and swirling pitch black, "Locks, hey wake up."
I groaned, a pain still thudding away at my temple. I attempted to lift myself into a sitting position but feeling all too nauseated I rolled over to my side, hot acidic bile rising up my throat.
I heaved out contents of my stomach and groaned once again.
"Ah crap, Locks. Open your eyes," David mumbled loud enough for me to hear.
This time I managed to sit upright, and forced my eyes open. Intense green light made my eyes water for a second before they adjusted.
I realised something was very, very strange.
