Chapter 3

I go straight to my locker and stuff all of my binders, notebooks, pencils, pen, etc. inside its cold metal walls. I suddenly realize that everyone around me has quieted I turn trying to find the reason for their silence. Then I see him, dark brown hair forming a wave on his head. classic aviators cover his eyes. He is wearing a black leather jacket with a crisp white tee-shirt under neath, he smirks when he sees me staring at him. A small crowd of boys follow him, they look rough, with muscles the size of watermelons on their arms and legs. It was hard for everyone not to stare. I'd never seen these boys here before, which was funny because I been going to this school as long as I could remember. They were probably new which was good for me since I had spent the majority of the summer buying new clothes and trying to make new friends. I already gotten my schedule earlier in the month making it easier for me to find my first class of the day which was science with Mr. Erikson. Taking my usual seat in the center of the class I start to doodle on the cover of my note book.
"Is this seat taken," asked the boy from the hallway this morning.
"Yeah," I say, "by my bag." He gently places it on the ground.
"I'm sure it will be okay on the floor right next to you." he adds with a smirk, rolling my eyes I look away.
"I'm Axel, alp... I mean I'm just Axel who are you?" He says staring at me with these baby blue eyes I could melt in.
"I'm Katherine, my friends call me Kat though." I remark.
"Thats fitting for someone like you," he chuckles. I spin toward him "what do you mean someone like me."
"Never mind," he says and I glare at him. He doesn't even know me and yet he is being rude. I return to doodling hoping this prick will get up and move, but luck for me he doesn't. When class starts and Mr. Erikson tells us that we will have assigned seat I can hardly hold back my grin.
"Emma and Hannah, you're partners," he says and they pump their fists in the air, "Johnny and Sarah your together, Faith and Jared, Emily and Jackson, Kyle and Adam and lastly," he says looking up from his list, "Katherine and Axel". I groan and Axel laughs
"What's wrong kitten, you don't like your partner."
"No I don't," I hiss at him.
"To bad your stuck with me," he replies. We stay where we are and I try to ignore the constant pencil tapping that my partner does.
"We are going to get a little bit more familiar with each so we're going to do 21 questions," says Mr. Erkison. The whole class groans but doesn't contest. So for 10 minutes Axel and I ask eachother questions like what's your favorite color, and what's your middle name. I find out a lot of usless stuff about Axel but nothing interesting and it turns out that we have a lot in common like our favorite color and animal. Thankfully the bell rings and we can all go our separate ways.
James and junior comes up to me and says "wow Katherine new look, it's hot." I hear a growl that right folks a growl from behind me, I turn to find Axel about to pounce on James and I push at his chest.
"Easy there, what's got your panties in a bunch." I ask innocently with a smile playing at my lips. He grunts and walks past me to James, shoving him against the lockers. I grab his shoulders and attempted to pull him off of James, I failed. Axels friends pry him off of James but not before he throws a couple of punches on James face. Blood rushes from his face and he crumples to the ground. I take a couple steps back and rush away from the scene. I run to my locker and grab what I need and go to my next class.
The next few classes go by in no time at all and I find myself at lunch. I grab a salad and a cookie and sit at my normal table with my friends. We all share on the latest gossip that's happened, when they heard about me and Axel together they freaked. They all wanted to know what happened and all the "juicy" details, even though I assured them that nothing happened. They still didn't believe me but eventually they stopped pestering me. When the bell rang for the last class I immediately jumped up and went to my locker, and grabbed my gym bag and went to the locker room to change for gym. Looking around in the room I didn't see any of my friends, which figures, my least favorite class is the one that I don't have any friends in. I don't like gym because I'm freakishly good as everything and yet I don't play any sports it's annoying because everyone wants me to join their team and I don't even want to. Walking in to the gym I see some younger kids but mostly seniors, and of course, I see Axel and his group of jocks. He see me and smirks I roll my eyes and the coach blows his whistle and yells to start with ten laps. ugghhh running on the first day just the way to end my day. I'm easily ahead of everyone for the first two laps.
"You're good at this," Axel comments jogging next to me backwards.
"Thanks captain obvious" I remark snidely. Desperate to get away from him I run faster but he easily matches my pace.
"Trying to get rid of me already kitten," he says, "you aren't that lucky."
"Go hang with your dumb jock friends," I say. For a second I thought he was really thinking about it but then he laughs.
"I'm good right here." he laughs, I inwardly groan and sprint the next 3 laps he does the same. only when I slow down to jog that I notice I've already lapped people and they aren't happy about it.
"Don't slow down because it's what they want do what you want." Axel whispers in my ear and I pick up my speed. In no time at all I finish my laps with Axel who has barely broken a sweat. We watch the others in an uncomfortable silence.
Axels friends are the second to finish, "Aplha...," one of them begins only to be elbowed by another one, "I mean Axel do want to get water or something." he shakes his head. Their weird I think to myself. I get up and go and get a drink while everyone else finish their laps. When I come back in I see Axel fist about to connect with Garett's face. Garett was the schools most popular guy before these new guys showed up. I run up to them and attempt to pull them off eachother.
"All three of you principals office now," roars coach. The boys break apart and leave.
"You too miss Katherine," says the coach. I stand there perplexed I didn't do anything wrong but I scurry away and people start to laugh. I sit on a bench on the opposite side of Axel next to Garett, "thanks a lot" I say to both of them they just rolled their eyes at me.
"Get in, now" say the principal. "I'm very disappointed in all of you Axel I allowed your pa.. excuse me your fellow students to attend here while your school is being rebuilt, but I will not stand for fighting in my school. Garett I would expect this from you but Katherine what part do you have in this mess."
Before I can explain myself Axel explains for me,"she was just trying to separate us she didn't do anything wrong." I just sat there like an idiot and nodded my head a few times as the principal explained that he would let this time pass and for it not to happen again. Finally he let us go and I almost ran to the locker rooms but Axel caught me by the arm.
"You're welcome for the save back there." he says.
"What the hell are you talking about?" I ask "I was doing fine on my own."
"Yeah," he says "that dear caught in head lights look really did the trick." before I can say anything he laughs and walks away.
I turn and storm into the locker room, never have I been so embarrassedg ugghhh why did he have to go to my school.
