Chapter 8

Y/N POV

    I stand by the corner of the maze as Thomas and Minho try to hide Alby in the vines.
    "Two, Three" Thomas says and pulls the vines so that Alby is hanging on the wall. I hear the gears of the grievers coming closer. "What are you doing? What are you doing?" Thomas asks Minho. I turn around and see Minho running away.
    I run to Thomas and push him under the wall with him holding Alby's vine. I touch the wall and imagine the vines growing down to hide Thomas.
    The griever walks around the corner and I see its Octavia from section 7. She looks at me and screeches.
    "Move along!" I tell her and she sneaks by.
    Octavia leaves and I look around the corner and see that she is gone. I go back over to Thomas and help him up. I take the vine from Thomas's hand and I tie it to the other vines attached to the wall.
    "How you do that?'' Thomas asks as we walk the maze.
    "I grew up with them, two of them really listen to me but that was not one of them"
    We stop for a second and Thomas looks around. He looks up and I follow his glare. There hangs Octavia waiting to kill.
    "Run!!!" we start to run with Octavia close behind us.
    We get to an edge and Thomas looks at me "What do we do?"
    "Jump!" I run and jump onto the vines across from us Thomas follows behind.
    We slowly start to slip down the vines and Octavia jumps onto the wall too. She brings her stinger out and tries to sting us. We slid to the ground and run around the corner running into Minho.
    "You're a crazy son of a bitch!" Minho yells at us. "Come on, follow me. Come on!" We follow Minho around the Maze. "Okay, it's changing. Come on, come on! This section is closing. Come on. We can lose it down here!" Me and Minho come to a stop and turn to look at Thomas but he is waiting behind. "Thomas! What are you waiting for?" the griever comes thrashing around the corner. Thomas starts running towards us. "Get out of there! Come on!"
    I tone out Minho and watch Thomas run towards us. He'll make it. If he could make it through the wall just before the door closes he can make this. He gets to us just before the door closes squashing the griever.
    We walk towards Alby's hiding spot and Minho and Thomas help him down. We get around the corner just as the door opens. I see Chuck standing there. We get into the glade and Thomas and Minho drop Alby to the ground. One of the boys takes Alby.
    We kneel on the ground and Chuck looks at us and asks a question "You saw a Griever?"
    Thomas looks at him "Yeah, I saw one."
    Minho interrupts "He didn't just see it. He killed it." All the boys look at him baffled.

In the council hall

    "Things are changing. There's no denying that. First, Ben gets stung in broad daylight. And then Alby. And now our Greenie, here, Has taken it upon himself... to go into the maze. Which is a clear violation of our rules here." Gally tells everyone.
    "Yeah... but he saved Alby's life." Frypan argues.
    "Did he? For 3 years, we have coexisted with these things. And now, you've killed one of them. Who knows what that could mean for us." Gally carries on.
    "What do you suggest we do?" Newt asks him.
    "He has to be puni--" gally starts but I run out of the council hall feeling like i'm going to puke.
    I get out of the council hall and turn to the side of it and I start throwing up whatever was left in my stomach. I feel a hand grab my hair out of my face. I wipe my mouth. I turn and look at the person and Newt is standing there. I still hear the other gladers arguing.
    "I'm fine you go finish the meeting. I just need some fresh air." He gives me a nod and he walks back over to the council hall. I hear them talking about making Thomas a runner. I think he would be a good runner. I hear the siren go off for the box coming up.
    I start running towards the box with the other boys. Newt jumps in.
    "Newt, what do you see?" Gally asks Newt.
    "It's a girl." Everyone starts whispering about this girl.
    "What's in her hand?" Gally asks.
    Newt takes the paper out of her hand and unfolds it and reads it "She's the last one... ever. What the hell does that mean?" he looks up at us. "Whoa!" the girl moves up and looks up.
    She looks at Thomas "Thomas..." she passes out again.
    Some of the boys get her out and bring her to the Med-hut.
    Newt gets out of the box and comes over to me. "Why were you puking?"
    "I don't know, probably because i was up all night and I missed lunch and dinner, and i was running all last night"
    "Let's get you something to eat then."
    "I'll go. You go take care of the new greenie."
