This novel has many families, characters, countries, and buildings that may be difficult to memorize. This is a list of all of them along with a description of who they are and what their names may mean.  I'll update each name and place as they are mentioned or revealed.

CHARACTERS

SHEN FAMILY - MC's clan
- Shen (沈) is a common Chinese surname and place name, but it can also mean 'deep' or 'dark'

FIRST HOUSEHOLD
Shen Xin - Great General, First Master Shen, MC's father
- Xin (信) can mean 'trust' or 'faith'

First Madame Shen - MC's mother
- Her name will be revealed once she and her husband returns to the Capital along with their son

Shen Qiu - MC's older brother
- Qiu (丘) can mean 'hill' or 'mound'

Shen Miao - MC
- Miao (妙) can mean 'clever' or 'excellent'

Jing Zhe - one of MC's first-ranked maids
- Jing (惊) can mean 'startle' or 'alarm' while Zhe (蛰) can mean 'hibernation' or 'winter sleep'. Since Shen Miao's four maids are named after the 24 Solar Terms, Jing Zhe (惊蛰) means 'awakening from hibernation' in this context

Gu Yu - one of MC's first-ranked maids
- Gu (谷) can mean 'grain' or 'valley' while Yu (雨) means 'rain'. Since Shen Miao's four maids are named after the 24 Solar Terms, Gu Yu (谷雨) means 'rain on grain' in this context

Bai Lu - one of MC's first-ranked maids
- Bai (白) can mean 'white' or 'clear' while Lu (露) can mean 'dew' or 'nectar'. Since Shen Miao's four maids are named after the 24 Solar Terms, Bai Lu (白露) means 'white dew' in this context

Shuang Jiang - one of MC's first-ranked maids
- Shuang (霜) can mean 'frost' or 'cream' while Jiang (降) can mean the verbs 'drop' or 'descend'. Since Shen Miao's four maids are named after the 24 Solar Terms, Shuang Jiang (霜降) means 'frost descends'  in this context

*In Ancient China, servants were normally named by their masters, so it's not unusual for their names to follow a theme or pattern, like Shen Miao's servants do

SECOND HOUSEHOLD
Shen Gui - MC's Second Uncle, master of the Second Household
-Gui (贵) can mean 'noble' or 'precious'

Ren Wan Yun - MC's Second Aunt, the Shen Family's Second Madame
- Ren (任) can be translated as 'responsibility', Wan (婉) can mean 'beautiful', 'graceful', or 'gentle', while Yun (云) can mean 'cloud' 

Shen Qing - MC's oldest female cousin, her First Older Sister
- Qing (清) can mean 'clear', 'clean' or 'quiet'

Shen Yuan Bai - MC's youngest male cousin, the Shen family's Seventh Young Master
- Yuan (元) can mean 'first' or 'primary'. FYI, this is also the same Yuan character in the Chinese Yuan and the Yuan Dynasty. Meanwhile, Bai (柏) refers to a 'cypress' or 'cedar' tree

Shen Dong Ling - Shen family's only Shu daughter, the Shen family's Third Young Miss
- Dong (东) means 'east' while Ling (菱) refers to 'water chestnuts'

THIRD HOUSEHOLD
Shen Wan - MC's Third Uncle, master of the Third Household
-Wan (万) can mean 'myriad' or 'ten thousand'

Chen Rou Qiu - MC's Third Aunt, the Shen Family's Third Madame
- Chen (陈) is a common Chinese surname, but the word itself can be translated as 'explain' or 'old', Rou (若) can mean 'like' or 'if', while Qiu (秋) can mean 'autumn'

Shen Yue - MC's second-oldest female cousin, her Second Older Sister
- Yue (玥) refers to a legendary sacrificial pearl

OLDER GENERATION
Old General Shen - MC's paternal grandfather
- Married Old Madame Shen after his first main wife dies
