AMERICA POV
I got back to the Palace, and all I wanted to do was see Maxon and sleep. But I was ushered up the stairs toward the Women's Room, where I heard a racket. I looked in and saw every girl from the Selection (except Marlee) partying like they won.
I was pulled in by Celeste who said, "You made it back! I knew you would, you b****!"
My head was spinning, "What is all of this?" I asked.
Celeste grinned, "He chose. Elise and I got the boot last night, it's down to the final two! All of us are here so we can celebrate who won. Elise is not taking it very well, she thinks she failed her family." She squealed again and handed me a glass of champagne.
I quickly swallowed it down, ignoring the burning in my throat. Suddenly a flash of silver on Kriss's neck catches my eye. Her necklace is... a North Star. How did I not notice that before? I pull Kriss out of the party, into the hallway.
She looked irritated, but I don't care, "You're a Northern Rebel." I state simply.
"What? No, you're crazy." she lied, it was blatantly obvious.
I raised my eyebrow at her.
"Okay, fine. But I don't mount protests, or do anything illegal. I just support the cause." She huffed.
A thought suddenly dawned on me, "You were in the Selection because of it." I said.
She looked down. "Do you even love him? Do you even like him for that matter?" I asked incredulously.
"Okay, at first, When I was presented to King Clarkson, I was only doing it for the rebels. But then I got to know Maxon, and I really do love him. So don't think you're so high and mighty. We have an equal chance at becoming Princess, so shut it, America." With that she stomped back to the Women's Room.
I sighed. I don't really want to go back to the party. I stroll toward my room. Once I get there I flop down on the bed in an unladylike way. Knock, Knock. I don't want to go get it, so I shout "Come in!" I look up to see My Maxon standing in the doorway smiling. I smile before jumping up and running to him. He moved the boxes in his hands into one. I envelop him in a hug and breath him in. He smells like...Maxon. He has a scent that is all his own. He wrapped his free arm around me, and he seemed to relax a little bit.
I lead him over to the bed and we talk for a few minutes until I ask,'' What are the boxes?"
He grinned, "This, you can open when I am nowhere near." he said, handing me an envelope. I raised my eyebrows, but set it on my nightstand anyway.
He handed me the other parcel and said, "This is less embarrassing. Sorry the wrapping is so bad." He handed me the box and bit his lip.
"It's okay." I laughed. I unwrapped the gift. It was a picture of a beautiful house.
"Oh Maxon, it's beautiful. Did you take it yourself?" I asked, still breath taken.
Maxon, being ever-patient with me said, "My America, the picture is not the gift. The house is."
I tilted my head in confusion. He smiled, "I figured you would want your family close. It's a short drive from the palace. I think Your sister and her little family would also be comfortable there."
My jaw dropped, "It's me?" I asked, my eyes brimming with happy tears.
"Oh My America, it's always been you." he said, grinning from ear to ear.
"We're getting married?!?" I exclaimed through the tears.
"YES! We're getting married!" He laughed with me.
