Keep your head down. You can get through this year like the last six; it's not that hard. If Amara kept repeating that, she might believe it. She got up to go down to the great hall, and as she got into the common area of the dorms, she saw them—Yoongi Min and Jimin Park, the two who had annoyed her since they returned to school.
"Oh, and what do we have here, Jiminah?" Yoongi called from the leather armchair. His cohort just smiled and waved his wand. Her books flew out of her arms and landed in his open hand.
"Geez, Amara, we just started back at school a month ago. How can you already have this much to study?"
Amara had to roll her eyes. These two were bright; they were smart without trying. It annoyed the shit out of her. She had never seen them studying, yet they always got excellent marks. They also get away with murder because Jimin is a Prefect. So he and his little band of Merry Men terrorize the school daily. There were Seven in total; two were in Slytherin, and that's Yoongi Min & Jimin Park. The other two are in Gryffindor, Namjoon Kim, and Seokjin Kim. Jungkook Jeon was in Ravenclaw and the last two were in Hufflepuff, Hoseok Jung, and Taehyung Kim. The last two weren't bad, but if you get them together with the others, then yeah.
"Give me back my books, Park. You may fool everyone else into thinking you are a nice guy, but I know better."
"I don't think I will; I'll return them later. You need to lighten up."
This guy seriously, "How am I supposed to lighten up?"
He wagged his eyebrows at her, "Well, I could think of one way."
Amara started fake gagging, "I'm sorry," fake gag, "I just" another fake gag, "don't think that I can. I need to go before I barf." She snatched her books back and left the dorm before he fully processed what she said. She'd pay for that later, but it was worth it.
She went to the great hall and ate toast while finishing her homework. Homework that would be 100 times easier to do if she could use a freaking notebook and pen. But no, they have to use rolled parchment and a quill with freaking ink. Sigh, sometimes wizards are so archaic. She looked up and realized that it was time for potions class. They have it with Gryffindor today, so she will have to deal with Namjoon and Seokjin.
Amara walked into the class and sat in the back. She was pretty good at potions but didn't like being called on if she could help it. If people know you understand the lessons, they want you to help them. She can't afford to help people; if people know her, they'll learn about her past. She already had to change her last name from Black to Graceford. They think she's a mudblood versus a purebred witch from a family with a long history in the wizarding world.
Amara is the dirty secret her family keeps away; she is surprised that they let her go to school. The stipulation was that she had to change her name, never let anyone find out she was Black, and keep her head down and her nose in the books. She did as she was told for six years, which was easy. Then this summer, puberty hit her like a freaking truck, and every guy in school suddenly started to notice her.
She was lost in her head, so she didn't even notice that she now had two table partners, one on each side of her. Namjoon leaned into her and tapped her head, "What's going on in that sexy brain of yours?"
She smacked his hand away and heard Seokjin laugh on her other side, "Why are you two here? Go sit with your housemates and leave me alone."
"Naw, we'd rather sit with you. That way, we can get all the answers to the homework, and we get to look at something pretty for an hour." Seokjin said with a smug grin.
"I'm not helping you with your homework."
"But we can look at you for the next hour?"
Amara looked at him strangely. "If you want to waste an entire hour staring at me, go ahead. It's not my grade, so I don't care if you fail."
