Two boys sat at a park bench, their fingers intertwined. You could call them complementary colours, for they were both certainly very different, yet they were inseparable and looked perfect side by side. Drawing a picture, you'd definitely put the both of them together, anyone would. When their eyes met, which was often, the world would stop for them both, in those moments it was just the two of them.
One had wavy, brushed back (yet still messy) brown hair. His intense, hazel stare could kill. Many would compare him to the wolf - like his name - and anyone could certainly see the resemblance between him and the typical portrayal of the mammal. On the other side of the bench sat a guy with luxurious, black hair that hung just below his shoulders, twiddling with the cigarette in between his fingers on his spare hand. Most of the time, his outfit would be the exact same colour as his locks, maybe with a bit of white or grey with it. Unlike his jumper-wearing companion, he'd mostly wear leather jackets and sunglasses, looking as cool as ever when he did so.
Most would assume they were a happy, regular couple. However, the two 'partners' themselves had no idea what their label was. Both could never seem to pluck up the courage to confront the other about whether or not they were merely friends or not. Though he had no idea if the other felt the same, Remus knew that he wanted to be more than that. To his delight, Sirius kept dropping hints he felt the same way, plus not every pair of mates would kiss and cuddle and more intimate activities.
That being said, Sirius was quite an affectionate person anyway, just like a big puppy, so perhaps it was merely because they were close friends. Lupin knew that they couldn't go their entire lives not ever mentioning the elephant in the room, but he could never imagine talking about it. That was anxiety-provoking, he already had enough of that and so did his best friend.
Often, Remus would complain to James or Peter - his other mates - and they'd both give the same response each time. 'Talk to him'. But he couldn't do that. If Sirius were to say no, not only would the conversation be awkward, but they could argue. Black had experienced traumatic experiences to do with arguing, he didn't need anymore of that in his life.
It was so painfully obvious they needed to talk about it, it was only inevitable, there was no escaping of what could potentially be a very awkward (but necessary) situation, but Remus could never get the bravery to do it. And Sirius... Sirius was just like every other person, confusing. A riddler if you will. Each and every human was ever so complicated, but Sirius was certainly special, so many mysteries that Remus longed to unfold and discover, each word from his mouth could have a dozen meanings and Remus wanted to learn the definition of every single one. Understanding Sirius would be wonderful.
You could never know what was going through Sirius's brain, and Remus wanted to figure out what was inside there. Would he pounce or stay put? That's what made asking him stuff difficult see, you could never gauge his reaction.
Inspecting Sirius's face, Remus sat there and sighed quietly. As anyone could guess, he truly loved this boy, everything about him just seemed perfect. His crooked grin and grey, twinkling eyes, how he'd push his hair away from his face every few seconds only for it to return. Whatever he did was adorable and every second Remus fell more and more for the dog-smelling lad.
But also with every moment, the realisation that they needed to communicate about what they were hit again and again. How does one bring that up? Was now the right time? Calculating when the right time to say stuff was and what to say had always been something that Remus struggled with and it was very apparent right now. If humans had no feelings, thoughts or emotions then it'd all be so much simpler. You could be as blunt as you wanted without having to worry about hurting those you care for.
And now here he was, on what he wanted to call a date, but had no idea if Sirius felt the same. Reading Sirius's expressions was near impossible, or maybe that was merely Remus being unable to understand people no matter who they were. He shook his head, deciding to stop thinking about the very thing he'd stress about later that night.
When they were together, everything was tranquil. There wasn't a care in the world. It reminded Remus of romance novels, of how they'd describe it exactly like that. Nice. Sirius Orion Black was so beautiful. Every aspect about him was mesmerising - he was hypnotic and if he wanted to be he could very easily be a puppeteer, and Remus would very quickly agree to be the puppet.
Truth be told, Remus had found the person he wanted to die for. If Sirius felt like it, he could do lots of damage, as Lupin would always be wrapped around his finger, regardless of what may happen.
Padfoot - the nickname their friendship group used for Sirius - played with a strand of Remus's hair, smiling with the boy. Peace. With Sirius there was always peace and happiness inside of Remus. As well as a feeling he'd never felt until he'd met that boy. Love. Each thing that Sirius did only made the butterflies in Remus's stomach flutter more, they could get annoying from time to time, but he associated them with Sirius, so they were ever so pleasant.
This odd sensation, love, was new to Remus, but he liked it. Perhaps that was just because it was with Sirius though. Though this new feeling could intimidate him at times, he was fond of it, and was afraid of losing it. What if the niceness turned into a gut-wrenching pain? No. That wouldn't happen, the newly bloomed flowers wouldn't be drowned. Ever. Remus wouldn't let that happen, he knew Sirius wasn't a flooder.
Despite never having declared being in a relationship - or anything less - Remus always felt a pang of jealousy whenever Sirius did something remotely flirtatious with someone else. A couple of years ago, Black had simply been talking to a girl near a wall and the jealousy had taken over Remus, he would have beaten up that lady if it weren't for James and Sirius having dragged him away. That woman had been pretty, if Sirius wanted to he could've very easily got his way with her, that thought had terrified Remus, so he had defended who he longed to call his own.
Whenever Sirius wasn't right there by his side, he'd go crazy because that wasn't where he wanted to be. He wanted to be with Sirius at all times. And he didn't want to risk losing him to someone else.
Right now was the perfect place and time for Remus, just him and Sirius, together. Sure there were other people at the park, but right there it was just the two of them. Occasionally, Sirius would lean in and brush their smiling lips against each other.
His brain reminded him of it. The question that seemed to constantly loom over him, which was rather strange considering it was usually him towering over people. But something that wasn't even solid was bigger and scarier than him. He knew what he needed to do. That didn't get rid of the fear of it though. So many possibilities...
He was going to ask him, what was the worst that could happen?
A/N : Ello! So this chapter is much shorter than I would've liked, but I hope you enjoy it. :)
