It was early in the morning still, and you have not slept a wink yet. You were still excited and over the clouds after the night you had. After the first step you took into that mansion, you did not expect to meet someone so refreshing and relaxing. And the dances you had together, you wondered when was the last time you enjoyed yourself so much. Yet this excitement kept you up at this moment, and you knew you had to fall asleep and rest so you could meet this person again.
But try as much as you want, sleep just did not want to come to visit you. Turning over, you saw the clock showing you it was seven in the morning, and you wanted to throw a pillow at it. Sighing, you turned on your back and laid like that, staring at the ceiling. The white color was perfect for your brain to showcase the film of your marvelous night all over again. You even managed to forget about your mark, which slightly throbbed during the ride back to the apartment, but when you checked it, nothing was wrong with it. Maybe it was your guilty conscience poking at you for enjoying yourself with a guy, a different guy than what your soul mark showed you. But you buried that information deep down in the darkest corners of your mind and heart and decided to make most of the present moment, to go back tonight and have fun, and make a new friend.
With that happy thought in your mind, you finally managed to drift into sleep, your eyelids heavy and, without even managing to make it to the memory about the dances, your brain turned off the movie, and off you drifted into dreamland. The next time you woke up, the clock showed you it was only lunchtime, and you yawned, stretching, and finally decided it was time to get up. You wanted to have enough time to cook something to last you for tomorrow as well, and then call your friend and tell her all about last night, and then get ready and go to the second night of the masked party. Looking out the window, you wondered if you forgot to open the curtains as it was rather dark, so you got up from the bed, and walking closer, your heart kept sinking lower into your stomach. The bad feeling in your gut turned true when you opened the curtains and the darkness outside greeted you.
You hurried to your phone and saw it was almost eleven at night, and you also had twenty missed calls from your friend. You could only stare in shock at the screen of your phone, before dropping it back onto the bed, hurrying to the bathroom to get ready. Grunts and swears were the only sounds escaping your mouth as you tried going through your routine, your panicked mind trying to come up with a way to get itself organized. After a quick shower, you finally relaxed a bit, and dressed again in a green dress, this time a bit darker in shade, and putting on your mask and shoes, you grabbed your purse, sent a quick text to your friend to let her know you are still alive, and immediately called a taxi.
The bad feeling returned as no one answered your call, and you felt panic knocking at your door before you could even get out of the apartment. You tried other companies, but only busy lines everywhere. In a way, you understood it was almost midnight, so everyone wanted to get to where they wanted quickly, but you felt sick and annoyed with how the situation was developing. You were in a rush, just as much as the other people, and even though it was not a family event, you felt like you would lose something pretty important for your life.
But you could only grit your teeth in frustration, and look up other ways to get there before midnight reached your timezone. Cinderella had it easy, she could party until midnight, but you could not even reach the ball in time, and no fairy godmother appeared out of nowhere to offer you a magical pumpkin. The distance from the apartment to the mansion was too big for you to walk all the way there, and you were not gonna risk it walking alone out there at this time of night. Your only salvation was the subway line which was not far from your place and would stop close by where the mansion was, and you decided to take that route.
Locking the door after you, you rushed down the stairs and immediately went for the subway street, panic riding your shoulders, breathing down your neck and into your ears. You could not explain why you felt in such a rush, why panic crashed into your soul, why your entire being was antsy and on fire, you only knew you had to get there quick before midnight reached.
