You do not need to have read the entire Gone series to understand the context of this story. It takes place before the first book "GONE", so you might want to have read that, but if you haven't this story still should be coherent and followable.
I don't expect many people to come across this story, as the Gone fandom appears to be pretty dead. But if you are reading this, thank you for giving this story a try!
