Valjean had yet to return home. Cosette paced around the room nervously waiting, waiting, waiting.  You can not trust these streets she thought to herself. "Des fauteurs de troubles!" She said aloud. "Ils sont partout." Translating to "Troublemakers! They are everywhere."

Valjean found her when she was young and living with the Thénardiers who weren't what you'd consider kind people. Fantine, her mother, having passed away when Cosette was only an infant. Cosette didn't know much about her mother who was described as beautiful and sweet. She had only met her in her dreams.  In these dreams, the woman was dressed in white, quiet and subtle. She whispers, "I love you dearly."

In admiration, she would ask many questions. Ones which Valjean could not answer. And so she wondered if these questions would even ever be answered. How could one depart so quickly? She never even got a chance to mouth the words mama. Never even got a chance to grasp reality. Though strange, Cosette held this against herself. Many have told her not to, how absurd to even being blaming herself for something she could not control. In the little girl's mind that wouldn't stop the sorrows, she had never have known.

"Where is he? " The sky dimmed into a white-orangish mixture. The horizon stretched far across the landscape in a cloudy canvas of art and God is the artist. But her, oh no she was far too worried to notice.

Life is unfair in 18th-century France. Unfair hat's the word she would hear a lot. It caused her to think excessively. "Why do the people have to fight for bread while the upper class has a full stomach?"  "Why are budgets were extremely tight?" "Why isn't everyone born with the same set of morals?" "Why can this be considered unfair to some but not for all?" A million questions. A thousand more. None to be answered.

Little did she know these questions would have a great impact because it looked like she was the only one to think critically. Or at least until she found someone who shares these thoughts? Perhaps an old friend.
