To My Brothers Chagrin

Vivianna POV

I lazily looked up and stretched, it was just after six in the morning. I sauntered my way into the bathroom, I had to get ready for the meeting with the Alphas. I was so touched that Sebastian, my best friend in this world, would allow me to attend these (finally). This would be my first time going and I was a little nervous. I was his step-in-Luna until he found his mate, even though I am not a wolf--at least not completely. Our friendship allowed us to have a lucrative and strong pack, the second largest in the world. His very own brother was the leader of the absolute strongest, though I do not love how he attained such a status. He was ruthless, I was secretly especially excited to meet him, something about the big bad older brother had interested me. A pack needs their Luna, except for his brother Theo's apparently. I slipped on a tight black bodycon dress, draping a white pea coat over my shoulders and slipping on black heels that wrapped ribbons around my ankles.

I was blessed to say the least, I was a tribid and the only that I knew of my kind. It meant I could draw my magic from my very own self, a wealth of power literally at my fingertips. It also meant that my dark hair with light natural highlights of a blonde stayed perfectly curled as if a professional did it, my complexion remained flawless, the long eyelashes that enclosed my bright violet eyes stayed curled, and perfectly sculpted eyebrows rarely needed any attention. I applied a light lipstick before looking at my reflection, satisfied.

I left my room, my wolf senses had me on edge today, like there was a shoe that was going to drop. I brushed it off as nerves as I knocked on Sebastian's door. "Vivianna" he greeted with a smile. "Good morning Alpha" I said sweetly, crossing the room to tie his tie, our morning routine. He would ask how I slept next. "How did my Luna and bestfriend sleep?" he asked, admiring my features up close. "I slept well; I am a little nervous for today" I admitted. His demeanor softened. "Viv, I will be with you. No one would dare mess with our pack, and my brother would murder anyone who threatened something that his family cared for-- I made it apparent that I cared for you. You are under his protection and my protection love" his thick British accent comforted. His dominating presence seeped through his normal shield, I could feel his authority and I could not help but wonder what his brother's presence felt like if his was this commanding. I shook the unwanted thought away. I wondered if my position as Luna was not as temporary as I thought. Even I could not ignore the fondness that Sebastian had taken to me, the way he was currently looking at me forcing the unwanted thought to the forefront of my brain. He always looked at me endearingly, but right now it was something else. We agreed that once he found his Luna, I would resign to become the pack doctor. I was trained in nearly every discipline, a rare list of things I did not naturally excel at. "Yes, thank you Seb. I appreciate you" I said kindly, dismissing the thoughts. He had a mate somewhere, and it was not me. I would only ever be his best friend.

He took my hand and I allowed him to lead me to the car. He opened the passenger door and easily glided into the driver seat. Andrew, get the fuck out here Elijah roared over our pack link, instinctively taking my hand as if to tell me he did not mean to direct any anger towards me. I smiled to myself, wolves were protective of their kind. I looked over at my sweet friend. He was tall at 6'3, pale but perfect skin, thick muscles from hours of training, dark brown hair that was styled neatly, and bright hazel eyes that glinted with affection whenever he looked at me. He was always dressed to impress, if he was not training then he was in a sharp suit and tie. He noticed me, giving my hand a squeeze as Andrew, his Beta, entered into the car. "My apologies Alpha, my mate had a hard time letting me leave this morning" he said lowly. I smiled knowingly, he had found his mate a decade ago, it was sweet that even after all this time they were still so head over heels for each other. From how I heard it, most mates have a hard time leaving the bedroom once they find their other half. We are immortal creatures; it is so difficult to guess when the moon goddess will bless us. I am relatively young, only being around for just over a century. Theo and Seb for instance have been around since practically the beginning of time. It hurt my heart for them, they did not think they had mates. The extensive time they had without them and the fact neither had one (nor their other siblings) only seemed to assure that fact. I was not so pessimistic, I thought they had one out there. It was not like they really went to search for their mates. As if he could read my thoughts, "Viv, I wanted to talk to you about something" Seb started lowly, "Yes?" I answered. "I would like to make you my Luna... permanently" he said quietly, thankful the Beta had put in his headphones to facetime his mate. "But..." I said dumbly. "Vivianna, I have been alive for a thousand years, I would like to mark you as mine." He said softly. I was caught off guard to say the least. "Seb... You have a mate, and I am not her" I countered lightly. I could not lie and say I had never thought about it. There had always been something about Sebastian, he was my best friend after all. "What would happen if one of us found our true mates" I added softly. "Yeah" he mumbled. "Like I would ever want them more than I want you" he said lowly. I blushed a little. "I love being your Luna, Sebastian, but I value our friendship more" I said. "It's not like I have never thought about it, you are everything a woman could ever want..." I said, he perked up at my words. "So what is the issue?" he asked defiantly. "You are not my mate, and I am not yours..." I stated plainly. He sighed. "People take chosen mates all the time. I do not think I am gonna find mine. I wish I were more like Theo; he is elated he does not have one. Thinks they are just a weakness and will get in the way of how he runs his pack. He loves being alone, he will even kill the women he beds, he does not want anyone to get the idea he is in the market for a Luna." He concludes, thinking out loud. "But then again he has never met you" he adds delicately with a low chuckle. I shuddered at Theo's methods, thankful for the brother that sits besides me. We had just arrived to Theo's land, where the meeting would be held. "Is that why you have been so hesitant to bring me to these meetings?" I ask incredulously as I got out of the car. He meets me on the other side and gives me a shy smile as response. I chuckled. "Sebastian, you are my Alpha. You are my bestfriend. There is literally not one reason in the world that I would ever just leave you" I snort as we take our seats, waiting for the last Alpha to filter in—Theo of course. I looked around to the other Alphas.

Each of them represented a deadly sin, even my very own Sebastian... their Luna was made to be the balance, their virtue. Alpha Lucias of the Longhorn Pack represented Lust. He was an absolute player and womanizer until is mate came along. She whipped him up and tamed him into an innocent flirt, his nature still not entirely gone. He was devilishly handsome. Stood at 6'2 with swept black hair and piercing blue eyes. Alpha Gavin of the Gravestone pack represented gluttony. He was as close to overweight as a werewolf could be, not chiseled like the other men in the room.  He stood at 6'0 with soft brown eyes and curly hair. His Luna was generous, ensuring everyone got their share. She is the reason they are still successful despite his personal habits. Alpha Gunnar of the Greyhound Pack represented Greed. He was perhaps the most conniving of all the men. He was 6'2 with a mop of messy blonde hair and pale grey eyes. His Luna was much like Alpha Gavins, they were sisters after all. Alpha Stephen of the Stonehedge Pack represented sloth. He was just slightly more in shape than Alpha Gavin, but not by much. The man was lazy. He was 6'0 with chocolate brown eyes and dark brown hair. His Luna was an active woman, constantly encouraging him to train his men. Alpha Wesley of the Wilder Pack represented wrath. His anger was rivalled only by Alpha Theo's. The fact he has failed to find his Luna may be partially to blame. He was in desperate need of his counterpart. He was slowly growing out control, picking unnecessary fights for small perceived slights. It was a frequent point of contention. Seb was constantly smoothing things out for his brother. An Alpha killing another was never good, it always led to a civil war. Theo was more than capable of causing that level of civil unrest. Wesley was 6'2 with jet black hair and hazel eyes that looked almost yellow. Sebastian was the Alpha for the pack that represented Envy, I think he was mostly envious of his brothers power and carelessness. There was a certain kind of attractiveness to Theo's recklessness. Our pack was the Ecliptic Pack. It made sense Theo was the Alpha of the pack that represented pride, the Perigee Pack. Alpha Theo needed someone to humble him, to truly balance him.

Mindless chatter proceeded amongst the Alphas, greetings and reacquaintances. It was then that the most intoxicating scent hit my nose. It was masculine like teakwood and pine trees. The doors burst open to a growling man that searched the room fiercely whom I deduced to be Theo with a madness in his eyes. He was... everything. He was probably 6'5 making me want to climb him like a playground, tousled dirty blonde hair that I wanted nothing more than to run my hands through, piercing green eyes that seemed to captivate my soul as he uttered one word before stalking towards me. "Mate." Well, I suppose there is one reason that I may leave Sebastian.
