It was late. I was sat up in my room trying to listen to my Mum and Dad's conversation in the next room. Nosey, I know! But my dad had been acting really suspicious lately and It had been bugging me. My mum won't give me any clues either, though she is always smirking away everytime I ask her.
I woke up the next morning on a mission to try and discover what my parents are hiding from me. The house seemed strangely quiet, so I shouted out to my parents but there was no reply. I rang my dads my phone to see where they are but as usual my Dad left his phone at home... which to me turned into a perfect time to start my mission! Walking into the kitchen I saw my Dad's phone on the table, I know its wrong to go snooping around someone elses phone but I was desperate! I grabbed his phone and started looking through his messages, to my surprise one of them said "Good luck with everything, best wishes to you are your family". What? Why do we need 'luck'?
"Lola, we're home! Come downstairs please"
I walked downstairs to find my Mum unpacking shopping bags, it looked like she had bought food for the whole street.
"Mum, why have you bought so much food?"
"Why don't you ask your Dad..."
I slowly turned and looked at Dad. He looked straight at me and gulped.
"Well, you see Lola, there is an amazing opportunity at work and its probably the best job we've ever been given and well... It means moving."
"Wait.. that's what you've been hiding from me for months?! Moving house? Seriously Dad? That's great, I'm really happy for you."
"Thank you Lola!"
My mum looked up at my Dad and shook her head.
"Tell her where we are moving Paul."
"erm, Lola, the job means moving to Australia. Your Mum bought all this food for your brothers, they're staying here until they figure out what they want to do."
So many things we're going through my head. What about school? My exams coming up? Friends? How is it fair that they get to stay! Ok, they are 22 and are committed to their jobs but WHY!
"AUSTRALIA?! Is this a joke? I can't just move to the other side of the world!"
"It's going to be hard for us all Lola, but its whats best."
Yeah, right! Like my Dad knows 'whats best'. He thinks that making me move to Australia where I have zero friends is whats 'best' for me. I can't even believe this.
That night, I updated my facebook status to "Moving to Australia in 2 days and I've only just been told. GREAT!" Numerous likes and comments later, all of my friends knew. They all wished me the best of luck and all that rubbish but I couldn't help but feel like they didn't really care.
