Schlatt was always not that much of an athlete before all of this shit happened. He would play some games with his friends, but there was no way back then he'd be able to run miles in the nether.

It was almost dissatisfying that he could now, it made him feel offset. Luckily the first thing he did back when the fight with Dream ended was enchant his clothing with fire protection, otherwise it would be quite embarrassing popping in and out of the lava.

At some point he just took off his shoes, somehow that helped balance his jumps better. It could be the cues his horn picks up from the contact with solid ground, or honestly fucking something else Jay Schlatt was no scholar.

Wil could probably answer that, so he ran in the general direction his friend was. It was at least six miles in, about two hours when a figure came into view.

Anywhere Wilbur went, he just looked regal. Even in a tight button yellow jacket designed for nether combat and a gold shin guards to dismiss piglins. Currently his string bean of a friend dived under the jump of a magma cube, cutting up as he went slicing it in half.

After it was defeated he noticed Schlatt, instant relief flooding his expression. He ran over to his friend, throwing his arms around his neck.

"Wil what the hell last time I saw you I set you on fire!" Schlatt said, shoving him off. It didn't work with the clinging poltergeist.

"Oh shut the fuck up you know I don't care," Wil pulled back, "Also there was a chance I wouldn't even see you here right now I was scared."

"Dude I wouldn't ghost you if anything that's your job." Schlatt chuckled, Wil rapidly shook his head.

"No no no. You remember how my brother is connected to all of us? Tommy can feel each of our individual connections to many things." Wil rubbed his eyes, "Earlier he collapsed saying he couldn't feel one anymore I thought you died!"

Schlatt felt himself visibly pale, "Wait so every other experiment not accounted for could be dead?"

"Yep, so that now can't be you. We lost either Skeppy or-"

"Purpled's too stubborn to die. It's either blue man or a mistake. Could it be another experiment we don't know of?"

Wil put a hand on his chin, sheathing his sword. "I don't know, we shouldn't risk it though. If one of them died the other could follow if we don't get going."

Schlatt just then noticed he didn't have a weapon, "You got a weapon on you?"

"My question is do you really need one?"

"Fair point, just make sure to not run into my flames."

Schlatt and Wil started off, making sure to travel consistently in the same direction. If Wil had to go around the fire experiment swam straight to keep their direction. After about two miles Wil had to stop. His endurance was drained, so they sat on the edge of a cliff.

"Hey Wil can I ask you something?"

"Yeah mate, of course." The other answered, biting his lip. Finally some actual conversation, have to pretend not to be to excited.

"Who am I? Like really I don't know anymore."

"Well I really never thought you changed a lot, I think I would notice. Really all that's happened is you've had to grow into a role, like I have."

"I wouldn't call being a mistake a role. If I wasn't even at that outpost I wouldn't be this way. Never was part of the plan, I shouldn't have been."

Wil softened, putting a hand on his shoulder, "That's not what I meant. Dude you have a romantic relationship!  Purpled fucking goes out of his way to prove his loyalty to you because he thinks of you as a brother. Schlatt you started building a family out of these people but it doesn't make you any different than the guy I knew before."
