SHE DIDN'T CARE when the usual avox came to wake her the next morning, despite the fact Isla was naked. At this point, she felt her and the avox had, quite literally, an unspoken understanding. She'd almost go as far as to say they were friends. As best of friends they could be considering the circumstances. Every morning the avox would wake her up, run her a shower, lay out her clothes, and braid her hair. Every night, Isla would come into her room to see pyjamas spread out and her bed made with the corner of the blanket flipped, inviting her into the cozy sheets. Of course, it was the avox's duty to do all of these things, but she felt the two of them were close. The girl without a tongue only ever seemed to smile when she was with Isla. She felt it was because they were so close in age that they got along so well.

It was extremely early, and the avox helped Isla get dressed in her freshly washed training clothes. Isla assumed they were to wear these to the arena, and then they would be put into the appropriate gear for whatever the terrain would be this year. She grabbed the avox's arm gently before she made to leave the room, "Could you do my hair, please? Something simple, but different. Whatever you think will look best." Isla smiled, and the avox nodded her head in response. She sat on the edge of the bed, allowing the avox to reach her hair.

Isla looked in the mirror, the girl had put her hair into a high ponytail. However, the ponytail was a braid. Isla gave the girl a nod to show approval, and she felt her heart warm as she saw the avox looking proud of herself. She then followed the avox to the main room of the floor for breakfast, where she watched as the girl stood in her usual spot along the wall. Isla wanted so badly to invite her to join her at the table, to not eat alone the morning of the games, but she knew the girl would get into a lot of trouble if she did.

The nerves were beginning to set in, and Isla played with her eggs. She kept looking at the avox, as it was just the two of them in the room. The others weren't up yet, as Isla had specially requested the girl woke her before everyone else. She wasn't sure if it was the anxiety making her paranoid, but the more she looked at the avox in the corner, the more she felt as though the girl had something she wanted to tell Isla. But, for obvious reasons, she couldn't.

Isla looked around, locating a pen on the coffee table. She grabbed it, and a napkin, and left it on the table next to the avox. She returned to her seat at the table, glancing sideways to watch the girl. Her skeletal figure hunched over the paper, writing quickly. She tossed the pen back to where Isla had gotten it, and slid the napkin over the dining table. Just two words were scribbled on the white surface.

Ruined city

The avox took the napkin and swiftly disposed of it into the fireplace. Ruined city? Isla stared at the girl, but was unable to press for more as Finnick came out of the hallway. He curiously looked at Isla, who was staring intently at the avox. "Coffee, please." She said, trying to play off the awkward scene that Finnick was surely intrigued by.
