I sped over to Brandon's house as soon as Jo hung up. I didn't even say anything to Mom and Dad as I ran past them and grabbed the car keys, my only thought was to get to Brandon and make sure he was safe.

I sped through a red light and nearly caused a wreck, barely making it out of there okay and surprisingly without getting a ticket or getting pulled over.

I approached his house and felt my heart drop when I saw neither Brandon nor his parent's cars in the driveway. Dread formed a tight knot in my stomach, causing me to feel suddenly nauseous.

I threw the door open and tried to jump out, only to forget I was still buckled in and was jerked backward. I muttered under my breath as I hastily unbuckled myself and ran towards the front door.

I pounded the door until Jo answered, tear stains on her cheeks, her eyes rimmed with red.

"What happened?" I asked.

She stepped aside and opened the door wider to let me in. I stepped inside and she closed the door behind her.

"We were sitting in the living room when these cops came to the door," she said, sniffing, tears running down her face again. She impatiently wiped them away, her brows lowering into a scowl. "They said they wanted to bring him in for more questioning. They sat there and questioned him for two hours. They were acting like he did something and were rude as hell. He cooperated and answered every question. They had stakes with them and brought him to the station in a cop car. They were acting like they were arresting him and it looked like they thought he killed those people."

"How long ago was that?"

"About thirty minutes ago. Mom and Dad followed them and he kept telling me not to tell you what was happening and they wouldn't let him take his phone. I knew you would want to know so I called you anyway."

"Thank you for that," I said distractedly, my brain trying to process what she just told me.

"What are we going to do?" she asked, tears continuing to stream down her face.

"I. . ." I wracked my brain. I was in disbelief that this was happening. Why the hell would the police -?

I paused mid-thought, the answer coming to me in an instant.

Shelbee. The bitch really reported him. She really meant all that she said. She really thought that somehow Brandon had it in him to kill all those people. My hands clenched into fists and I swore that the next time I saw her I was going to carve her face in.

"Lyric?" Jo said, breaking me out of my thoughts. "What are we going to do?"

I thought quickly, my mind scrambling to come up with some sort of plan. "We need to go to the station."

She nodded and followed me out the door. She climbed into the passenger side of my car and I sped off again, more careful this time to follow the speed limit and to make sure I didn't get into any wrecks.

We pulled up to the police station in record time. I parked in one of the spaces. Jo was out of the car before I could even shut the engine off, speed walking to the entrance doors. I quickly got out and followed her, almost running to catch up with her.

"Jo, hang on!" I called out. She had a huge mouth on her and she got in a lot of trouble when she ran it. The last thing that the Smiths needed right now was for their daughter to get in trouble as well and I knew how sharp her tongue could be.

Luckily, Jo stopped but she had a deadly scowl on my face. I knew in a couple of years she would invoke the same fear that her brother could.

I was out of breath by the time I reached her. Vampires were fast as hell, even when they weren't using their advanced speed.
