Fortunately, no other incidents happened after that one unpleasant day. The rest of the week went by smoothly. Other than the stares and the whispers, no one bothered me. I was happy to learn new magic and be able to try new spells. Shelbee, Nick, and Tristan kept throwing me dirty looks but other than confronting Brandon and me and stuffing that wad of paper soaked with spit in my backpack, they hadn't done or said anything to me.
Isaac also stayed away from me, which was great. I knew he was upset about what had happened between his sister and Brandon, but I was still pissed for him confronting us at Steak n' Shake. Because of him, I could never show my face in that Steak n' Shake again and he was an asshole in general. I saw him glance over at me a couple of times and it seemed like he wanted to talk to me, but I'd turn my back to him and completely ignored him. I didn't care what he had to say and wanted him to leave me alone.
However, no one tried to talk to me or want to sit with me at lunch, as trivial and mundane as it sounded, but anytime I tried to sit with someone, they would move away, and anytime I tried to talk to someone, they would totally ignore me and act like I wasn't there. I was feeling unwelcome and outcast, and I knew it had to do with Tristan and Shelbee.
I didn't let it affect me, though. I kept my focus one hundred percent on my classes. I wasn't going to let petty shit like this keep me from my work and fulfilling my dreams.
I also focused on the competition that was going to come up at the end of the semester. At lunch, as soon as I saw that the signup sheet was up and available for students to sign, I was up there in an instant, lunch pushed to the back of my mind.
The line was long but I stood there the entire time. The time to eat was ticking away and there were people even getting out of line so they could get their lunch, but I stayed right where I was. I didn't know if there was only a limited number of students that could sign up or not, but I didn't want to take that chance. I wanted to ensure that my name was on that list and that I was going to get into the competition.
By the time I finally reached the signup sheet, my feet were sore from standing so long.
I grabbed the pen that was dangling from the chain that was stuck to the wall and quickly signed my signature on the first available dotted line I saw. After I wrote my name, I quickly scanned the other names on the list and noticed one notable name scribbled on there.
Tristan Anderson
I shook my head and stepped out of the way so the next person could sign their name.
Of course, Tristan would sign his name. Why was I not surprised?
I sat down back in my seat and pulled out my phone. There were only three minutes left of lunch so there was no point in getting in line. Even in the most prestigious school of magic, there wasn't enough time for lunch.
As usual, I texted Brandon. I signed up for that competition I told you about.
He texted back within a minute. Cool. what are you going to do about it?
Haven't decided yet. I'll think of something soon.
You're going to do great.
Thank you.
I have to go. Class is about to start.
K'. love u
Love you too
I heard someone sit down next to me. I glanced up and my body tensed.
Isaac held his hands up. "Don't worry, I didn't come over to start anything."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "You sure about that? The last time you talked to me you nearly started a fight with my boyfriend in the middle of Steak n' Shake."
