I sat up abruptly in my bed, gasping for air, my heart pounding wildly against my rib cage. A glance around told me that I was still in my room. I sighed in relief when I noticed that my door was cracked open. I'd closed it before I went to bed.
Frowning, I leaned forward and saw someone peering through the doorway before running off.
I stood there for a long moment, trying to wrap my mind around what I just saw before rushing after the person despite the growing feeling of dread that caused my chest to clench.
The person was already barrelling down the stairs. I was right behind them.
The room was dark and I couldn't make out who it was until we passed by a window and moonlight streamed inside, highlighting the person who was running away from me.
"LeBlanc!" I called out as we ran into the kitchen.
He finally stopped in front of the sink, gazing out the window above it, his whole body tense and rigid. He didn't turn around to face me as I took a step towards him.
"What were you doing outside of my room?" I demanded.
Still not looking at me, he said, "I thought I heard noises coming from your room. I was checking on you."
"But why did you run off like that? Why not explain that to me instead of running through the house like a madman?"
"I. . ." his voice trailed off, trying to come up with a plausible excuse. "I didn't. . ."
I waited for a long moment but he still didn't answer. I suddenly got a bad feeling. A voice in the corner of my mind screamed at me to get away from him, to get as much distance from him as I could.
"Okay," I said too quickly, my voice lifted a couple of notches and I inwardly cursed myself. I gave it away that I knew something was wrong. "I'll just go back to bed. Good night."
I turned on my heels and quickly left the room before he could respond. I headed straight for my parent's room, needing to tell them that something was going on and we needed to get away from LeBlanc as soon as possible.
I opened the door as quietly as I could and shut it softly behind me so I wouldn't startle them.
I rushed over to the bed, where they were sleeping soundly underneath a pile of blankets that covered a large portion of their heads.
I carefully pulled back the covers and whispered, "Mom, Dad, you need to wake up. Something. . ."
I froze, still holding the blankets in my hand. There was a dark, ugly green aura around them as they laid there. They didn't stir or move at all when I shook them both, trying to wake them up.
Someone cast a sleeping spell on them. No, not someone - LeBlanc.
I backed away slowly, my mind racing as I tried not to panic and tried to figure out what to do next.
I tried removing the spell from my parents, mustering all the energy I had, and using every removal spell I could think of, but nothing was working. This spell was strong as hell and cast by another sorcerer that was much stronger than me.
Crap, I thought on the fifth try as I tried to lift the spell. It wasn't working.
I thought about getting Daniel, but his room was downstairs, where LeBlanc had been the last time I'd seen him. I didn't want to chance to be near LeBlanc again and I had a strong suspicion that he cast a sleeping spell on my uncle as well.
Okay, Plan B. Call the police. I had no idea what I was going to say to them but I had to get them down here because I knew that there was no way I could fight LeBlanc on my own.
