"We meet again old foe," came the playful voice of Maximus.

"Just like old times," came the reply of a voice filled with false friendliness, "You haven't changed a bit.

"I could say the same about you. Has anyone told you that you look fabulous under moonlight?" the man grinned.

"Has anyone told you that you look like an ogre in the daylight?"

At this Maximus couldn't help but laugh. "Just as cruel as I remember."

A gentle wind blew in the darkened field, making Naomi's hair creep from under her hood and tickle her face. It also caused the grass to sway at her ankles, sending a tingle up her leg.  "Did you think you'd come home to a loving and caring wife?"

"It could have been that way if you would have just obeyed me." Maximus ran one hand through his silvery hair and let his other one grip the handle of his axe. "You know that I love you?"

"You know that I hate you?" Naomi spat back, slowly pulling her sword from its scabbard.

"Are we going to fight already? Come now darling we've only just began talking." There was a hint of disappointment in his voice. Naomi didn't care. "Don't call me that. I'm not your wife."

"Then why are you still wearing the ring?"

Her eyes dropped just barely to hover over the heavy silver ring on her left index finger before raising her sword and charging.
