"Now students, Hogwarts has the honour of hosting a very exciting event this year. I am pleased to announce that the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts this year," Professor McGonagall said.
"No way, that's amazing," I said to Lucca who was sitting next to me.
"I know, I'm definitely going to enter," he said.
I was about to reply when McGonagall cleared her throat loudly and the loud muttering that had just erupted, simmered down to a hush.
"The Triwizard Tournament was first established seven hundred years ago and is a friendly competition between the three largest schools of wizardry in Europe - Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. A champion will be selected to represent each school, and the three champions will compete in four tasks. The tournament was discontinued from the increasing death toll. Over the centuries, there have been several attempts to reinstate the tournament, none of which have been very successful. The last attempt was many years ago, but with many safety precautions, the Department of International Magical Co-operation and Magical Games and Sport believe this year will be different and they are ready for another attempt," she said.
"The heads of Beauxbatons and Drumstrang will be arriving in October with their shortlisted contenders. The champions will then be chosen the next day, on Halloween. An impartial judge will decided on the three most worthy students, and these students will compete for the Triwizard cup, the glory for their school, and a thousand galleons prize money," she said which caused another rumble of chatter.
"Now, only students seventeen years or older will be aloud to enter," McGonagall said to a response of angry buzzing.
"This is because the Triwizard Tournament is very dangerous, and only student who are of age will be able to cope with the tasks. Now, off to bed," she said sitting back down in her chair.
The students then all stood up and headed to the doors. I followed them with Lucca before looking for Melanie, Lena, and Layla who had congregated in the entrance hall and were all talking excitedly.
"Hey guys, are you going to enter?" I said.
"Of course, it would be amazing to be champion, and one thousand galleons prize money, think of all the things you could buy with that," Melanie said. Layla agreed instantly. They were both Griffindors, so it was not surprising that they wanted to have a go, but Lena was a little less convinced at the prospects of entering the tournament.
"Hey Lena, you don't have to enter if you don't want to. There is nothing wrong with that," I said looking at her, slightly concerned.
