When I was returned to my cell, I was shaking.
"We'll be back," the pegasus said, using her wing to slam the door.
I visibly winced just at the sound. My heart continued to pound. "Teddy..." I hugged my legs to my chest and buried my face in my knees.
*~*~*~*~*
"Crystal," a voice whispered after the sun had set. "Crystal!"
I peeked open an eye to see Levi in his fox from outside the bars. "What do you want?" I quietly snapped.
He sighed. "I made a mistake. I'm here to get you out of here."
"Why?"
"I read the notebooks."
My eyes widened. "You what?!"
"Shush," he hissed. He began to dig under the bars of my cell.
I wanted to shove his furry face away, but if I wanted to see Teddy again, he could be my only chance. "Can you go faster?"
"Whether purposely or not, they literally stomped all over this soil, and it's almost as hard as rock!" he muttered.
My heart pounded as he struggled with the dirt, the first few scratches seeming to do nothing.
"Come on!" he muttered under his breath. He stopped, panting. "It's no use!"
"No-no. Don't say that!" I rattled the door.
"Shush! You're going to get us caught-"
"What's going on down there!" a voice yelled as the doors were opened.
"Now you've done it," he muttered before scurrying out of sight.
A guard came down and right up to my cell. "You got a problem?"
"You took my son-"
"You assaulted a guard-"
"Who plucked my son right out of my arms and tried to disappear through a magical door!" I yelled. Nope, tears go away. My shoulders tensed, and I tried to stop my lip from quivering. "I-I was not looking for the doors. I was out on a walk with my son and was going back to my apartment but-"
"Shut it!" he snapped, banging his spear against the bars. "He has yet to wake up yet. I don't know what you did-"
"I honestly don't either," I whispered, wringing my hands together. "I-I was just set on getting Teddy back."
"He's not even your son."
"Yes he is! I adopted him! I had to lose him for a little bit as the courts decided whether I should be allowed to take care of him!"
"I suggest that you keep it down." He turned to leave.
Levi sprang out of the shadows and latched around the guard's neck. Electricity began to fizz around him, transferring to the guard.
The guard cried out and, a moment later, slump to the ground.
"That won't do it for long," Levi said, morphing into a human and fumbling with the guard's keys. His hands shook a little as he tried one key. Didn't work. And then another. Five keys later, the door swung open. He grabbed my wrist. "I can't believe I'm doing this! You owe me-"
"You're the one that put me in here!" I snapped as I struggled to keep up. I jumped when an alarm went off. "Wha-"
"I'll explain later," he mumbled, shoving me toward a cart attached to the centaur.
