((HI GUYS!!! TODAY WE'RE SHAKING IT UP A BIT!))

((I love AU's a lot, so I decided to do a royalty one! I hope you enjoy the picture, too! :) ))

The overdecorated pearly castle stood before you in all it's "glory". It made you sick to your stomach. Your partner glanced over at you and nodded. The mask on your head fit perfectly around your features. My kind have been shunned long enough. It's time for us to rise.

Your heels clacked against the steps as you approached the front of it. Music already begun to pour out of the echoing halls, as figures laughing and having conversation came into view. The interior glistened with gorgeous marble statues and graceful curtains, which rested atop the pillars. The precious material that you worked for, barely got paid for, all for some stupid castle for the incompetent royals. Your lower class wasn't respected. Several had it harder, you knew, but you can spot bullshit. Checking your outfit helm one more time, and silently appreciating how well your mother made the weapons concealed. One deep breath in, and you stepped into the large hall. Guard were posted at every other pillar, which you silently noted to yourself. It'd be a bit hard... especially since it was your first time doing something like this. But you were chosen for a reason. Your "charm" was known throughout your little town a bit farther from the castle. A whistle signified your partner was moving to the outside post for your escape. A sense of doubt filled your head as you looked around at all the upper classfolk in their outfits. A little more searching around, and you easily spotted the prince's star maiden, known for her talent in piano. And fuck, were they right. She gracefully let her hands fall on the keys of them as several suitors, or other guests gathered to listen. You started to make your way over, when suddenly the back orchestra picked up. People began to slowly dance around with their partners- and you lost your clear path. Curses... You went around the couples and tried to find another way. Whatever you did, you had to get behind that piano. Your second post was there.
But nothing prevailed.
You sighed and stood near the edge of the dance room, watching the people glide around with elegance and grace. All of them wore stunning, carefully crafted masks adorned with gems and fabrics you've only dreamed of. You'd never make it that far... to live in such luxury... Oh well. Grateful for what I have... I guess...
It's always felt disgusting when you put what you had already down. But sometimes you couldn't help but wish for something... more? It wasn't exactly clear.
"Excuse me, may I have this dance?" A voice startled you. Looking upwards, it was a nice boy with neat black hair extending his hand to you. You plastered on a smile and accepted it, standing up. You stumbled over your heels a bit, and he slightly made a face before helping you adjust. His hand clasped around your waist, and you swallowed hard. You weren't used to people touching you... at all, really. Both of you joined in on the circle of people enjoying themselves with the music. It wasn't that hard to spot you two- you've never danced before. Your clumsy footwork and inability to hold a gaze with the stranger just proved you didn't belong. The clutch around you let up, and he spun away. Another stranger spun to you and locked with your eyes. You quickly looked away from their piercing blue gaze and hastily grabbed their hands. This couldn't go any slower...

It was the same for the next forever. A new person, new spinning, another song would shift on. When the song shifted, you turned away from it all. It wasn't fun... in the slightest. The prince wasn't around, you were dizzy and sick, and starting to get nervous. Maybe it was a bad idea from the start. The pillars stretched higher to the ceiling as you got closer. Almost bailed. Guilt formed in your stomach as your eyes stung with tears. Suddenly, something clamped around your arm tightly, and sent chills through your nervous system. You swiveled and noticed an unfamiliar face look into yours. He had unnaturally pale skin, and a purple mark along the right side of his face. His hair was messy, but ruled down by a crown. It was the prince. The prince! Your mood immediately shot up, and adrenaline flushed through your veins.

"Were you going somewhere?" He looked down at you with his cold gaze. A knot tied in your throat.
"Not anymore." You managed to put another grin on your face. Step two was easy.
"Lucky me." He let out a low laugh. A flutter rose in your chest and you tried to rip your eyes away from his. But it was as if you were in a trance... you couldn't move anything besides to the rhythm of his body and the music. You glanced around and saw everybody switching partners. You had to get away from him. His arm let yours go as you started to glide away. But it was snatched back quickly, and he pull you in again.
"So, where are you from?" He spun you around again. "It's not from the village. I never see you."
"I'm not from the village, correct. But my whereabouts are not important to you."
"They are if I want to see you again."
Your face turned hot, and you opened your mouth to say something when he waltzed you over to the side of the room. Nobody noticed, and you felt his hand slip into the upper part of your outfit. You froze and stared at him wide eyed. The Prince looked at you and glared, before curling his lips into a small smile. The effect it had on you worked- and you relaxed the tension in your shoulders. Quickly, he yanked upward and you heard a tear before gasping. He cupped your mouth and let out a low laugh yet again, holding up the knives and viles you had on your side.
"How did you-"
"I wasn't born yesterday. And despite my looks, I'm not some coddled, sheltered goody-two-shoes. I know what the world is like, and what it wants with me. And you, and your 'friends' I know are here, want me dead."
"I don't... I'm... I'm sorry."
He glared down at you for a bit. A slight bit of noise arose, and he quickly glanced over at the stairway hiding you both from view. His guard dropped, and you became worried over the look that had settled on his face. Just as you were about to speak again, he looked back at you.
"The guards don't see me. In about forty seconds, they'll stop the music and search the castle. No doubt in my mind says you won't be discovered. You have to get out of here."
"I know- I'm just..."
"I know you're sorry." He cut you off once more. "And... I forgive you. You aren't evil. I can tell your intent isn't thought through well enough... listen. I was raised to be on my guard. I want you to press your fingers around this part of my neck, and I'll go unconscious. Then stab the dagger in my side, not too high or low, and I probably won't die."
He looked at your frightened face and managed another laugh.
"I'm joking with you. I won't, trust me. But when I do, run. Faster than you've ever ran. But before all of that, what's your name?"
"Y...Y/N..."
"Heh, pretty name. Really aren't from round here, huh? Well,"
A voice arose and he hardened his stare.
"Ruv. Now, go."
You nodded and clasped your hands around his neck, watching as his eyes fell heavy. You jabbed your dagger into his side. A warm sensation flowed over your hand, and he fell. Your legs screamed to run, and for once, you followed your instinct. The clatter of his crown fell behind you, and you swallowed your scream.
"Y/N, what happened? Are you ok?" Your partner looked at you, worried.
"I'm fine, let's go!"
He was startled, but nodded. You grabbed his hand and hopped on one foot as you took off your shoes, and started running. Echoes of screams erupted from the great building, and your legs burned. Your outfit snagged on something, and to your dismay, ripped. It stung a little as whatever caught you scraped your side. Through the upperclass village... and through a forest, when you couldn't run anymore. Both of you sat down at a tree and lit a lantern that was prepared for this exact scenario. He closed his eyes with his breath showing in the night's cold. You opened your sweaty palms to wipe them on your knee, when you noticed a slip of damped paper. Unfolding it, you read the beautifully written text carefully.

My dearest,

I couldn't take my eyes off you at the event yesterday. I know you'd like to appear as somebody you aren't... but I see through your façade. It was wonderful to get to know you better. And your name- which I'm assuming is foreign, will be in my thoughts from now until forever. I request to meet you at the front gardens in the eve as the sun sets behind the hills.

Your hopeful beloved,

(Prince) Ruv~
