[ Chapter Eleven ]

Tomorrow There'll Be More Of Us

River, along with everyone else, had changed out of the quantum realm suits.

They were dressed in black.

Natasha Romanoff had died. Why the hell did River feel like it was her fault when she wasn't even there? She didn't like guilt.

Scott was there too, River was mourning, along with the rest of the team.

"Do we know if she had family?" Tony asked after the long silence.

"Yeah. Us." Steve answered, River didn't want this, she just wanted everyone back. And if she had've known that would happen, she would have went to Vormir instead of Natasha.

"What?" Thor asked, confused.

"I just asked him a question–" Tony replied.

"Yeah, you're acting like she's dead. Why are we acting like she's dead? We have the stones, right? As long as we have the stones, Cap, we can bring her back, isn't that right?" Thor paused, growling, "So stop this shit. We're the Avengers, get it together." He finished.

"We can't get her back." River told him, still sitting on the same crate as before.

"Wha– what?" Thor questioned. "It can't be undone. It can't." Clint repeated. Thor laughed dryly.

"I'm sorry. No offense, but you're very earthly beings. Okay? We're talking about space magic. And "can't" seems very definitive don't you think?" Thor said.

"Yeah, look, I know that I'm way outside my paygrade here. But she still isn't here, is she?" He responded to Thor. "No, that's my point–"

"It can't– be undone. Or that's at least what the red floating guy had to say." Clint started shouting, "Maybe you wanna go talk to him, okay? GO GRAB YOUR HAMMER, AND YOU GO FLY AND TALK TO HIM!"

His anger soon became replaced with grief.

"It was supposed to be me. She sacrificed her life for that goddamn stone. She bet her life on it."

In a burst of anger, Bruce picked up a bench and threw it across the lake.

"She's not coming back. We have to make it worth it. We have to." He said, he had a resigned look on his face, Steve went to respond, but River beat him to it.

"And we will."

And they would.

They were gonna make this worth it. They would get everyone else back, no matter what.

River misses Nat.

I love how Scott's just there to comfort her.
