"What are you doing?"
The voice startled me and I closed the lid on the coffee jar.
"Nothing"-I said turning around to face him. He had that arrogant smirk on again.
"It would be a lot easier if you just admitted you were addicted."
"Are you crazy? Today is the last day. I'm not risking my baby."
"You never told us why you care so much about that car."
"And I never will. Just give up already."
"A week is not long enough. I should've asked for more."-he said sighing as he sat down.
"You got cocky. It is what it is."-I said shrugging my shoulders. I turned to the fridge and was about to get a can of cold Coca-Cola when I remembered our other bet. I turned to see he was watching me with a raised eyebrow. I sighed closing the fridge. "I hate you."
"You got cocky. It is what it is."-he threw my words back at me.
"That seems to be a reoccurring problem with her."-H said, walking into the kitchen and taking my waffle.
"See what I meant? He just comes in. No knocking, no hello my dear best friend, nothing..."-I said taking a sip of my tea.
"I come for the food."-he said with his mouth full almost choking. He swallowed and continued: "Besides, we all need that one person that just barges in."
"Need?"-I said raising my eyebrow.
He shrugged and said: "Well you have it nonetheless."
"Annoying, isn't it?"- Nick said with a smirk. He was talking about yesterday.
"You both are."
I really need coffee to tolerate them. Wouldn't it be so nice if it rained coffee? I would stand outside with my tongue out soaking it in. But the universe was never on my side. My perfect daydream was interrupted by my father who walked in.
"Did you just frown when I walked in?"-he looked at me with wide eyes.
Before I could defend myself, Nick spoke: "She was dreaming about coffee. You interrupted her."
The look I gave him was one of pure shock. How the hell did he know that? He saw my expression and raised an eyebrow saying: "Deny it, I dare you!" That made me only roll my eyes. He was so insufferable sometimes. His accidental guess is not going to scare me. he's no psychic.
"So Bill how are the wedding preparations going?"-H asked taking a sip of my tea.
"You're asking the wrong person. He didn't even choose his wedding suit."-I said taking back my mug.
"Are you insinuating that I don't participate in the wedding preparations?"-he said raising his eyebrow at me.
"What's the name of the band, dad?"-I asked copying his exposition. He opened his mouth and closed it again. I could see he was trying very hard to remember. He had no idea of course. Judy and I struck a deal with them yesterday. I took a sip of my tea to hide my smirk. Putting down the mug I said: "I rest my case."
"Do you plan on going to law school and I wasn't informed?"
"Of course. I shall be your successor."
"I like the idea of having a defense attorney as the best friend."-he said taking my mug again. I gave him the stink eye and said: "You know, maybe prosecutor is more my calling."
