Willow's POV:
I sat with Pansy, Draco and Blaise at the Slytherin table as the sorting ceremony dragged on with lord knows how many First Years. There had to be a million of them. I scanned the High table for any faces I didn't recognize, but there wasn't any new faces, at least not yet. My eyes landed on that of Severus who had a bored look on his face, or though to everyone else he just wasn't showing any emotions. He turned his head to the side like he knew someone was watching him, but his eyes never found mine. Tiny Professor Flitwick, the Charms teacher, was sitting on a large pile of cushions beside Professor Sprout, the Herbology teacher, whose hat was askew over her flyaway gray hair. She was talking to Professor Sinistra of the Astronomy department, who was gesturing with her hands about something. In the very center of the table, sat Professor Dumbledore, the headmaster, his sweeping silver hair and beard shining in the candlelight, his magnificent deep green robes embroidered with many stars and moons. The tips of Dumbledore's long, thin fingers were together and he was resting his chin upon them, staring up at the ceiling through his half-moon spectacles as though lost in thought.
"Well, well how are we today Black?" a voice sounded as other students began to clap for the second to last first year who got sorted into Ravenclaw. I turned my head towards the voice and found Kendrick Jacoby smirking at me. I roll my eyes and turn away from him without saying a word.
"What cat got your tongue, Black?" the girl sitting beside him questioned, I think her name was Grace Gentry or something of the sort.
"More like dog!" Kendrick laughed, making the others around him laugh too. I turned my attention away from the last first year to Kendrick, who had a devious grin on his face.
"You think you are real funny don't you Jacoby?" I hissed dangerously low. The ceiling above us turned from a clear night sky to a sky with clouds that held rain. A wind started to slowly fill the Great Hall as rain began to fall onto the students who sat beneath it, earning screams from other students.
"What the bloody hell?" Grace hissed, looking from the ceiling to me and back again, clearly wondering if this was my doing. I dared to tear my eyes away from Kendrick and closed my eyes only to open them again seconds later to a small gasp from beside me. Every student from other then those near me, looked around the room silent murmurs filling the room.
Professor Dumbledore stood from his place at the head table, raising his hands to silence the room. "There is nothing to fear, only a small malfunction of the enchanted ceiling. Now dig in!"
Food appeared on every table and students began to look more like zoo animals instead. I sat there looking at the empty plate in front of me not feeling hungry at all. I could barely even look at it.
Draco nudged me softly in the side, "You need to eat something other then the candy you had on the train."
I gave him a soft smile, "I can't."
"Then promise me you will go down to the kitchens later and get something." he urged.
"I promise." I said softly.
Once everyone finished their desert the food was cleared away. The buzz of chatter filling the Hall ceased almost at once, so that only the howling wind and pounding rain could be heard.
"So!" said Dumbledore, smiling around at them all. "Now that we are all fed and watered, I must once more ask for your attention, while I give out a few notices. Mr. Filch, the caretaker, has asked me to tell you that the list of objects forbidden inside the castle has this year been extended to include Screaming Yo-yos, Fanged Frisbees, and Ever-Bashing Boomerangs. The full list comprises some four hundred and thirty-seven items, I believe, and can be viewed in Mr. Filch's office, if anybody would like to check it. As ever, I would like to remind you all that the forest on the grounds is out-of-bounds to students, as is the village of Hogsmeade to all below third year. t is also my painful duty to inform you that the Inter-House Quidditch Cup will not take place this year."
