Always (Donghua x Fengjiu, Pillow Book Fanfiction)

Chapter 6 - Home (part one)

Gungun tried very hard to break free but he could barely move as he was squished between his parents. His parents had such messy sleeping habits. Jiujiu kicked her blanket all the time and father's hair was all over the place. He wrapped his fingers around their hair and moved his tiny arms to sleep more comfortably. When he woke up a few hours later, he found himself alone on the bed tightly bundled in heavy quilts. He turned into his fox form and wriggled out to look for his mother. The door to their bath chamber was closed, so she must be bathing. He was getting bored so he decided to go out and play in the yard.

He was jumping about in the yard chasing the birds that were trying to eat from cao cao's bowl. Cao Cao too was screeching loudly to scare the invaders away. After all that exercise Gungun's stomach rumbled, he went inside to check if jiujiu was done bathing. The door to the bathhouse was still shut. So Gungun decided to look for food in the kitchen. Jiujiu had the habit of making and storing lot of treats for later, but she always hid them well. Gungun searched through the pantry but could not find anything to eat. As he was leaving, a round tin on the top shelf caught his eye. He figured that JiuJiu must have stored some snacks in that tin.

He dragged a stool and climbed on it to retrieve the tin but he couldn't reach it. He stood on his toes and just as he grabbed the box he lost his balance and fell down. In the process, another tin containing rice flour that was placed next to the one he grabbed also fell down and its entire contents spilled on him and the floor.

Donghua was nibbling on her neck when Fengjiu's attention was drawn to the loud noise. "What was that noise, let me go and check" Donghua held her tight "mmm, what noise xiaobai, I did not hear anything at all" he whispered and coaxed her to stay by placing kisses where he was nibbling before. "No no let me check, what if something happened, Gungun is out there alone." She tried to move his arm that was encircling her. "Nothing will happen to him, he has a shield." he tried to convince her but she did not listen. He had to let her go.

She dressed up quickly and ran outside calling Gungun. She found him in the kitchen covered in white trying to clean the mess he had made. The more he cleaned up the white mess, the whiter he looked. Fengjiu burst into laughter at the sight. When Gungun saw her laughing, he made a face. Jiujiu was so different from the mothers of his mortal friends. When they fell, their mothers would hold them, not laugh at them. Though he was not injured at all but shouldn't she be worried and check?

Fengjiu laughed harder at the cute pouting rice ball who was glaring at her. His parents were so bad, now even father had joined in with mother. He glared at the pair, got up, dusted the flour off himself. "Hmpff, I will not talk to you both, you two are meanies!!I am going to Grandma's house" he declared as he walked out.

He had walked a few paces when Donghua picked him up like a sack, "well why don't you clean up before you go?" He asked as he took him to the bathhouse ignoring all his protests and deposited him in the small wooden tub that he had made specially for him. Just as Donghua was about to leave after putting Gungun's clothes in the wash basket, he got out of the tub and ran to his room. He was still very angry with them so he shut the door behind him. Meanwhile cao cao had caught on and started singing "I will not talk to you, meanies" at the top of his lungs.

Fengjiu cooked Gungun's favourite fish porridge and sweet potatoes. "Donghua, let's have breakfast, I have roasted sweet potatoes and there's fish porridge too." She announced. "Xiaobai, you love me best, thank you for making my favourite breakfast, let's eat quickly" he replied.

"Here, take some more, why are you eating so less, wait give that spoon to me,  I will feed you myself." She suggested "Well today is my lucky day indeed" he replied .

Gungun couldn't take anymore. He came out of his room ready to scold these two meanies who were now eating his favourite food without him. To his surprise, they weren't eating at all. Before he could react Jiujiu pulled him close and seated him in her lap and before he knew it he was being fed porridge and roasted sweet potatoes. Donghua too poured some porridge in a bowl and started feeding Fengjiu. "No no you eat first, I will eat later" She protested and directed the spoon back towards him. "Eat a little with me" he insisted.
