I'm NOT A Baby Anymore

Chapter 13: Consequences

   "Is that -?"
   "Pearl." Peridot mutters dryly and Pink feels slightly relieved that it's just her best friend and not her family. Peridot, however, is less than thrilled to see her sister. Pearl looked around the area, worry clear on her face as she pockets her car keys and begins to walk away from her car.
   
   "How'd she find us?!" Pink questions out loud curiously and Peridot huffs sounding completely irritated as she crouched down by the window and secretly glared at the taller girl.
    "I may have hidden here before...once or twice..." She admits sheepishly making Pink shake her head.

   "Well we can probably still hide so long as we don't draw attention to-" before Pink can finish her thought Peridot leaned forward and cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled out to Pearl

   "What are you doing here, no clods allowed!"

Which caused Pearl to jolt, but her worried expression eased and she let out a relieved sigh at the sight of Pink and her little sister Peridot sitting in the big barn window.
  "So much for hiding Perry." Pink mused dryly as Pearl rushed to enter the barn and Peridot pouted, angrily muttering under her breath about Pearl.

The large barn door crashed open and Pearl flittered anxiously into the dusty place, her eyes wide and her face slightly pale. Pink and Peridot moved to look down at her from the loft as she moved to find someway to get to them.

   "What possessed you two to do something so stupid!? Everyone is worried sick about you! I cannot believe you two!" Pearl ranted as she finally found a way up and began to climb up the ladder to reach the younger girls, making Pink smile at how adorably adamant her friend was whenever she was passionate about something. Peridot however was less than amused as she regarded her older sister dryly.

    "It's none of your business. Still isn't." The short blonde growled angrily as she crossed her arms, giving her sister a dark glare as Pearl tumbled into the loft.
   "Peridot, I don't care about whatever drama you have going on with Lapis! I care that you made mama and mom cry all night because we had no idea where you were!? I was so worried and I'm sorry you're hurting but- "

   "I just want to be alone right now thank you." Peridot butt in snidely and Pearl sighed softly at her sister's statement.

  "I understand, but I'm here for you if you need me." She promised quietly.

Pink watched fascinated as Peridot's resolve crumbled and she tearfully jumped up from her crouched position, raced to Pearl and hugged her sister tightly around the middle.

   "Don't apologize, I should not have worried you or our parents. I just miscalculated my thoughts last night and made a sporadic decision." She murmured softly as she buried her face against Pearl's shoulder.
   "Well, I was really worried, you scared me half to death. But if you need time alone still, then I can just let our parents know I've found you, you're safe, and you just need some time alone to yourself." Pearl offered kindly to her sister.

   Pink was rather confused by Pearl's offer, her sisters would never, hell her mother would never agree to that. They'd just force her to come home, her family never considered her feelings.

  "Actually I'm rather homesick, maybe I'll stay for a bit but I would like to go home." Peridot reasoned before realization seemed to wash over her. "Oh but Pink, what about your family?!"
Peridot inquired and Pearl  shot her a worried look that made Pink feel conflicted.

  "Oh dear, I almost forgot, we should get you home your family was rather upset last night," Pearl, ever the rational one reasoned kindly but Pink stood, as much as she wanted to run home and hug her mom and sisters, she wanted her freedom more.
    "I don't want to go home. I don't want to tell them where I am either." She grumbled angrily.

   "But they were so worried about you, I know your family isn't perfect..." Pearl sighed as she trailed off likely unsure of how to sway her friend when she knew how controlling and emotionally abusive her family could be. Pink gave both her friends a sad smile.

    "I don't want to go home, but I know I have to. If my mom found out you were hiding me..." Pink shudders fearfully as she looked away, crossing her arms over her chest as she hugged her self. "I couldn't do that to you guys." She mumbled sadly meeting her friends' concerned gazes with her own teary eyes.
   "We aren't going to see you anytime soon are we?" Pearl whispered sadly.  Pink gave her a bittersweet smile as she quickly crossed the threshold of the barn and swept her first friend into her arms.

   "I love you Pearl." She whimpered making tears spring to Pearl's bright blue eyes. Peridot whimpered at the scene before turning away to give them privacy.
   "Don't say it like it's goodbye!" Pearl repremands angrily and Pink laughed tearfully and pressed her teary face against Pearl's neck. Pearl's eyes instantly begin to blur over with large tears and she buried her own teary face in Pink's bright hair.

   There they stay huddled together so tight that not even the sturdiest of crowbars could separate them. Eventually Peridot joins the hug tangling her arms around the both of them. It feels like seconds when in reality they'd been standing, hugging, for at least half an hour or more.

    Finally Pink steps out of the warm hug and steels herself for what's to come.

   "This just might be goodbye," she warned them seriously, Pearl looked teary eyed again and Peridot upset. Pink let's another sad smile grace her already sullen features before she grabs Pearl's hands in her own. "But no matter what my mother does, or how she reacts, we are friends, we will always be friends, I won't let this be goodbye forever!" She promised with conviction before pulling Pearl into her arms once more.

   "We'll fight for you, my diamond!" Pearl promised firmly and Pink smiled more genuinely then and squeezed Pearl just slightly.

   "I know you will."
