Isla slipped down next to her best friend, right on time for the first class of their last year. Her books slammed upon the desk as she rested her chin in her palm, thinking vividly about what the teacher was speaking.
''This year won't be what I suppose most of you know it to be." Professor McGonagall said sternly as she strode back and forth in the front of the class, ''I will also take the wildest of guesses and say that most of you have been granted with a letter from the ministry, and for those who have— I solemnly hope that you have opened them. It's of great importance that we all play our part right for this world to—''
The classroom door flung open as three mumbling voices hewed the professor off. All heads seated within the four walls snapped their heads towards them.
''No, you said it started at—''
''Oh, for fucks sake, Malfoy, get a grip. I didn't say—''
''Oh yeah, but you did you filthy—''
''Mate,'' The tall brunet placed a hand on Malfoy's shoulder as he gripped it tightly, ''Perhaps we should—''
''Yes, Mr. Nott.'' McGonagall's tone held harsh as she called out for them, crossing her arms over her chest, ''Perhaps you should quiet down and take your seats.''
''Certainly.'' Theodore bowed his head, sending her an amused smile, ''I apologize for these two idiots—''
''Oh, piss off, Theo.'' Another voice shouted out next to them, ''Only because you—''
''Shut that filthy mouth of yours, Zabini, or I'll make Greengrass shut it for you.'' The blond's jaws clenched as he sought not to laugh at his own comment.
''You fucking—''
''Mr. Zabini.'' The professor shouted loudly over the student's curious heads, ''That is enough, thank you very much. Now all of you take your seats, and I believe that detention is in order.''
Eyes rolled among the three Slytherins as they annoyingly cursed underneath their breaths before hunching down onto the chairs in the far back of the classroom.
Isla's eyes stayed on all of them, without thinking about it, and just as she was meant to look away, to face the professor in the front of the class again — her sight locked in the pinning ones as he rushed his large hand through his messy curls.
Her stomach flipped, and her veins iced by the narrowed stare he gave her. She quickly shifted around in her position, tearing the eye contact apart.
''What was that about?'' Ava leaned closer, ''And what was that comment about Greengrass? Is Blaise with Astoria now?''
Isla shrugged in response, her fingers trailed over her books and the quill resting in front of her, ''Not that I heard of, but I haven't heard anything from anyone in nearly a year—''
''Miss Green, and Miss Clarke.'' The professor severely cut their conversation short, ''Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. No talking in my class, detention for the both of you as well.''
''But Professor—'' Ava rose but was hastily hushed with the hand McGonagall raised towards the two girls.
Chuckles trailed off the three Slytherins in the far back as Ava spun around in her seat, sending them the evilest glares.
''Do you have a problem over there, miss Green?'' Draco rolled his tongue on the inside of his cheeks as he rose a brow, letting Ava's last name slip out with a fusion of disgust and sarcasm.
''I do, and let me tell you—'' Ava's palms struck her desk, and as she was in the making of standing up from her seat, Isla's hand settled on hers to make her clock out of her furious state.
