a pen hovered above elise's arm. her fingertips were itching to draw something. part of her mind wandered to writing her name, but she refrained. she would follow her soulmates unspoken rules.
instead, she drew a butterfly. she had always loved them, and she sat back with pride when she finished it. her right hand was full of her writing and dumb drawings, while the left was littered with her soulmates messy yet sweet notes that they liked to write throughout the day.
her favorites where the ones wishing her a good night or good morning. something about them just brought a smile to the brunettes lips.
as she was getting ready, she got a text from carmen. her and lily were five minutes away.
giving herself one last look in the mirror, she slung her backpack across her shoulder. the various keychains she had on it hitting each other and her arm lightly as she did so.
elise reached her hand through the bars of allium's cage, petting the black and white bunny before leaving the room.
"look, i'm just saying, it could be alex!" lily smiled, eyes still on the road. they were trying to convince carmen that maybe, just maybe, alex could be her soulmate.
"yeah right! karl is yours, you're saying alex could be carmens, what's next? nick is mine?" elise laughed. her best friends laughed along, though they stopped short. since she was in the backseat, she didn't see the sideways glance they gave each other. "there's no way that can happen."
"you never know." carmen smiled, though her eyes held elise's a little too long before she turned back around.
they soon arrived at the small café. it turned out to not be as busy as usual. the trio was soon seated and handed menus.
small talk was made as they caught up with each other despite talking every day since the last time they hung out.
lily's phone buzzed against the table, causing them to glance at it.
