and you were something
like a dream— badbadnotgood
"all you have to do is confirm that she's your soulmate right?" karl asked.
"yeah."
"why don't you... draw something somewhere visible so that when she streams next it's clear that it matches yours." nick had to admit that lily had come up with a good idea. still, he bit his lip anxiously.
"it'll be fine, nick. just draw like a heart or something." doing what carmen suggested was easier said than done. first, he tried getting out of it by saying he probably shouldn't have sharpie that close to his eye, though everyone just told him to get something different to write with.
he didn't know why he was going through with it. how was he supposed to react if one of his closest friends was his soulmate? how would he even tell her?
still, he did it with the encouragement from his friends. the small heart stared back at him.
this was bad. a lot of people had been tagging elise in the tweet, meaning she surely would see it if she hadn't already.
nick was sitting on his bed, staring at the ceiling. how could he have been so dumb as to forget to cover the heart? he knew it was a bad idea. he should have never listened to his friends.
on the other hand, he now had confirmation that elise was his soulmate. one of his best friends was the one for him. as his mind wandered to her, nick's heart rate quickened.
his phone buzzed, causing him to jump slightly.

"nick, what's wrong?" elise asked as soon as she answered the call."elise..."
"you're scaring me..." she laughed out of nervousness. "please say something."
"we're soulmates." the phone almost fell out of her hand. it almost hit the wooden floor of her kitchen. luckily, her grip on it only tightened, making her knuckles white.
"what? nick, this isn't funny." elise started, cutting nick off as she began talking again. she was now leaning against the counter in an attempt to steady herself. "you... you know how much my soulmate means to me. don't joke about this."
"i'm not joking, el. let me prove it to you."
"go ahead, prove it." some shuffling was heard on nick's end as he presumably got up from his bed. she heard clicking of a pen, and then his voice.
"check your wrist. if nothing new is there, i'll...... i'll do anything to make it up to you." nick prayed to himself that he was right about this. if he was wrong, he was risking his friendship with her. one he's only had for a few months. one he didn't want to lose anytime soon.
it took elise a few moments to get up the courage to look away from the spot on the floor she had been staring at. slowly, her eyes drifted to her wrist, turning it over so her palm was facing her.
it's me, angel.
