The plane ride is always the most annoying. You would think it was the packing and the process of planning out the trip? But no. It's the plane ride. You would think that after years of moving from state to state I would get used to the lengthy plane rides, but it's actually the opposite.

Growing up, my parents and I moved from state to state because of their jobs. I've lived in probably more than half of the whole US, and even some parts of Europe, but this year, I knew I had to make some changes.

As soon as I got out of college, I took a job at a coffee shop down the road from where I lived in Chicago. I decided to take the year to earn some money so I could eventually move out of my apartment I shared with my parents and younger sister Lia. Leaving her was the hardest, but she said she'd join me in a few months.

Lia is only 1 year younger than I am but is incredibly smart. We were basically graduating college together, but she had an accident. On her last year of college, she crashed her car and broke her leg and arm which put her in the hospital for a few weeks. She couldn't attend graduation, but she finished online and earned her degree and is currently working a job so she could join me in Korea.

I snap out of my thoughts and look out of the window. All I see is clouds, thousands and thousands of white clouds. I put my headphones in and listen to some calming ASMR because it's been my go to for years now.

My eyes shoot open as I feel the turbulence shake the plane.

Great. Something else I can never get used to.

I hear the person over the speakers inform the passengers about the turbulence and they assure us everything is okay. They were right, the turbulence stopped moments after.

I must've slept for a long time, because before I knew it, the flight attendant was announcing that we would be landing soon. Getting to Korea and knowing only one person was terrifying. The first thing I did as I stepped off the plane was text Lia.

Amelia: I landed safely! I just got to baggage claim and picked up my stuffs :D

Lia: Amy! I was waiting to hear from you and i'm glad I did! Mom and I were worried like crazy!

Amelia: No worries! I'm safe and i'm heading to my hotel right now ❤️ What are you up to?

Lia: Well, considering its 8 at night, i was just awaken by my annoying sister from a really good nap 😀

Amelia: right.. time difference 🤡 i forgot hehe

Lia: i'm kidding, sunny and i are cuddling on the couch watching beauty and the beast 🥰

Amelia: leave the poor cat alone Liana, she's tired of you😭

Lia: oh she LOVES me, she's giving me scratches of joy

Amelia: yeah, right.. Anyways, I gotta head to the hotel but i'll text you when I get there, love you! 💜

Lia: love you :)

I put my phone away and walk to catch a cab. The ride to the hotel was short considering there's many hotels near Incheon Airport. I jump onto the bed and take in the moment.

I'm really here. It's insane.

The view from my hotel room is not the greatest, all I can really see is a big brick wall of another building. What matters at this moment is that I made it here safely, and in one short week, I will be able to start my new job.
