THE DEVIL SAYS GRIFFIN VALE IS WRONG. The devil says that she is a bad person, that she haunts the souls of the people she's killed, that she's cold and callous, dark and evil. The devil says she's not warm or kind or friendly, but insanely well trained and good at what she does — eliminating targets. The devil says that Griffin Vale grew up travelling the world with her detached mother, who was a photographer, and now that she's deceased Griffin not longer had any family left. The devil says Griffin Vale is the stain of red blood in a pristine white piece of paper, the break in a burrowed chain, the scratch on an otherwise pure piece of glass. She is the thunder that cracks against the tree you sit under, the voice in the back of your head that tells you they see no evil, hear no evil, the taint in a glass of wine, the taunt in the shallow corners of your mind. The devil says Griffin Vale is not made to love, or to be loved.

Let it be known that Griffin Vale hates patriotism. Despite working for SHIELD for the past nine years now, Griffin hates patriotism like no other. It does not depend on what city, country, nation, planet or galaxy she's on, nor the world, and Griffin will still despise being patriotic. Therefore, it only seems fitting that Griffin has spent the last six months keeping every third party in a vicinity of the man who wears a star spangled suit and represents the embodiment of patriotism is back. And it was fine, Griffin did not mind, it gave her a sound mind to know that she was carrying out what Fury had ordered her to do, what Hill had been relying on her to do — however, a magic blue cube blowing up and ensuing a series of cataclysmic events that change the fate of S.H.I.E.L.D as they know it following Captain Rogers' is revival back to the modern age is not something Griffin expected.

And supervising a batch of rogue superheroes with strange powers and different intentions on how to save the world...now that's above even Griffin's pay grade.

(No, seriously, Fury needs to give her an pay raise...like yesterday).
