Megan's POV
Shawn and I run around my backyard, raking the millions of red, orange, and golden leaves into piles, just to run and jump into them again and again. "Last one to the tree house is the rotten egg!" I hear Shawn yell. I giggle and start running to the tree house knowing I'll lose anyways. It was a Saturday night so we always watched High School Musical 2, it was our new obsession. Shawn and I usually had play dates at my house, since his little sister Aaliyah was pretty much a baby still. We never scheduled our play dates, he just came over everyday after school. I was in Kindergarten and he was in 3rd grade but we didn't really think that much of it. We always had a good time together.
Suddenly it was morning and I hear loud thumps coming up the ladder to the tree house. Shawn shoots up and guards me, "I'll protect you Megan! I'm your knight and shining armor!" just to realize it was my mom asking if we wanted blueberry or chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast before we headed off to church, where we both sang in the kids choir. I was sucky, but I only did it because Shawn made me, and oh my, was his voice so beautiful. Sometimes I would have him sing me to bed at night to help me fall asleep, or when I woke up in the middle of the night from a nightmare.
We got to church and ran in, late because Shawn's stomach was nervous, like every other time, but he would always get over it. We were "backstage" and Shawn was taking deep breaths. "You're going to be perfect Shawn, like always. We are gonna kill it!"
"You're right Megan. I love you," and he brought me into one of his warm, comforting hugs because he towers over me by at least 7 inches. We went on stage and half way through the song I looked over at him and saw passion in his eyes and I thought to myself, "Wow I'm so lucky to have him as my best friend." He must've felt the stare because he looked over and smiled at me.
Two weeks later and I'm standing here crying my eyes out because my mom just explained to me why there is a big truck out side of my best friend's house. I ran up to Shawn and he picked me up into the hug and said while tearing up, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I just didn't want you to be sad the whole two months before I left. I'll see you soon. I love you best friend."
He got in the truck and started to drive off, before he got to the end of the road he put his window down, waved to me, and made a heart with his hands. "NOO SHAWN COME BACK!" I screamed falling to the ground out of breath from crying. My parents ran over to me and picked me up, my dad wiping my tears.
"We know you had special feelings for him, sweetie. I'm sorry. Now let's go inside and have lunch," my mom said rubbing my back trying to calm me down.
"I didn't have a crush on him mom, he had cooties anyways. he was my best friend, and now I'll never have another friend again," I said running into the house going straight to my room and screaming into my pillow. My best friend is gone, and my life is ruined.

My alarm clock went off, and I got up to get ready to go to hell. 7th grade.
