"Alright guys now that we learned drop spins it's time for us to learn windmills"
I had drop spins and extentions down and windmills seemed really cool but little did I know it would be my worst nightmare.
"Ok so at the tab you put your hand over the pole and you push with your wrist up down, in front of you and behind you. And make sure it's in the toaster so you don't hit anybody. Also make sure it's just your wrist moving not your arm your arm needs to stay where it is."
I tried it out myself and it seemed really easy. I could move it up and down and maybe I hit myself once or twice but I'm a new person what else do you expect.
"Ok now that it seems like everyone has the idea let's work on the release." A release? I'm kinda strong but i don't think I'll be that strong to release a flag with little momentum. "So all you have to do is get the momentum from doing four or more windmills and flicking it out once you have the flag upright. Now you try it. I'll count you off and we'll do eight. 5,6,5,6,7,8 and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and an out squeeze."
As soon as Molly said out there were so many polls hitting the floor it sounded like someone broke a whole bunch of glass. Trust me I wasn't that hot either.
"Ok so leaders go help the new people because they obviously need it."
I turned to Chloe because she's been teaching me everything so far and so I trust her. Even before she could even start teaching me I hear Oscar from behind me. "Hey Chloe let me teach Abril you've been hogging her. You can teach everyone else."
She said ok and as soon as she left I was instantly nervous. Boys intimidate me. And now I'm by myself with this one. I told myself to be calm and just do what he says, color guard wise.
"Ok so let me see your windmills with the release."
I did them and dropped it of course. "Ok so you need a firmer grip on the flag and you need to stay in the toaster like this." Ok is this really happening he grabbed my hand and is moving it to show me how to do it. This is like the cliché move that guys use at mini golf just with a flag.
"Now that's I've shown you I want you to show me." Ok you can do this just shake that off and do what he "showed" you to do.
I did it and it seemed easier but I still dropped it.
"It looks a lot better you just need to flick it out more," and he left.
I couldn't believe that he did that. I was almost convinced that he had an interest in me but nah. A junior wouldn't be interested in a 14 year old girl, who looks like she's 11, that's 4'9 and who's going to be a freshman. He might like my hair though it's ombre like every other basic white girl. Although I'm Mexican or more specifically Latina and he may like that since it looks like he's Mexican to.
After we showed Molly what we learned she let us have a break.
While I was walking with my friend Carlisha, Oscar is walking towards me and I say hi thinking he's just going to pass by but instead he grabs me in this big hug and says, "Don't worry you'll get it eventually." He squeezes me one more time and walks to his stuff.
I stand there trying to process what happens but it's too late because it's time for us to learn "across the floors".
