The Color Guard Couple

August 24-25

I was texting Oscar all day and he left to go do some chore. I was sitting after my bed watching MTV MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS and wondering what I should wear and do with my hair for the first day.

It was my first day of high school tomorrow and I wanted to impress. Mainly impress Oscar. Even though he's seen me sweaty and out of breath. (band camp) Then I remembered a conversation we had over text the other day.

Him: Hey you know how your hair is so long?

Me: Yea I should I live with it.

Him: Smarta** , well you should curl it because its so long. I think it'll look cool.

Me: Itd just be curled

Him: Well I'm a boy so I'm clueless pleeeeease curl it one day

Me: Hmmm. First day of school?

Him: YEA! THATS PERFECT!

Me: Ok then first day of school

The problem was that I didn't know how to curl my hair. So I talked to my mom and she said she'll do sock curls for me.

So I let her. It was a long process and I went to sleep with them in.

Next morning I woke up put on my flannel, jeans and took out the socks that made my hair curl beautifully. Once I made my makeup on point I was ready to go to my bus stop. Then my mom called me to her room.

Me: Yes mother?

Mom: Sit down

Me: *sitting trying not to panic and thinking if I did anything bad*

Mom: I went through your phone and saw you were talking to Oscar a lot

Me: Ye- yea he's just a friend

Mother: Well you need to stay away from him. The last thing I want is for you to get hurt your first year of high school.

Me: So you want me to stay away from him?

Mom: Yes as much as you can. I know thats hard with colorguard but try as much as you can.

Me: Ok

Mom: I love you

Me: I love you too

After the conversation I went to my bus stop. The whole time I couldn't stop thinking about what she said to me. Stay away from him? How could I? But I guess I'll try. As we got to the school I realized there were some students waiting for us at the doors and the closer I look the more I realize Oscar is there!
The one thing my mom told me to do was stay away from him and standing right there waiting at the door!

I tried to keep my cool but I was so anxious. All I do is smile at him and walk past him. As i walk past him I noticed that he got a haircut.

I wasnt used to him having really short hair so I kinda didn't like it but I just shook it off.

As I walked to my next class I hear Oscar calling my name. I turn around and he's behind me trying to catch up. The first thing he says is, "Nice hair." and my heart flutters. I cant believe he noticed. After that we make small talk and split ways to our classes. His is English in the 800 hall and mine is World Geography in the 600 hall.

Fast forward to lunch and I have it 5th period. I'm talking to my best friend Stephanie in the lunch line.

Her: So last period I have geometry and you know how I draw really patterned stuff?

Me: Yea

Her: Well this guy came up to me and told me that he'll buy my picture for a dollar.

Me: Well did you let him buy it?

Her: No!

Me: Why not you couldve gotten money?!

Her: I dont care

Out of nowhere I hear my name being called and it was Oscar! Apparently we have the same lunch. I wave hi to him.

Her: OMG THATS THE GUY

Me: What?

Her: Thats the guy that asked to buy my drawing!

Me: Oh Oscar asked to buy your drawing

Her: You know him?

Me: Yea

And I told her everything about the summer. As I did my heart fluttered with everyword.
