Chapter 15
Sophia’s POV
“Sophia?”
Slowly turning my head I came face to face with my ex-boyfriend James. While I was frozen in shock he was looking from me to the baby boy in my arms and his twin sister on the floor.
I gulped as the smell of fresh blood filled my nostrils, I could see his veins pulsing at the side of his neck and my throat was beginning to burn. I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t let my vampire-ness take over me, I had to stay human, I had to stay me.
“James. What are you doing in Volterra?”
“You’re mother told me that her and tony were getting married here with you and she invited me. I thought I’d come a day early so we could spend some time together.” I was speechless, partly because I was having the day from hell, and partly because I was worried that if I opened my mouth I wouldn’t be able to control my urges.
It was only then that I realised Rina was making her way across the floor to bite James.
“Rina!” I quickly scooped her up forgetting that I had super-vampire speed. James looked at me, his blue eyes filled with confusion. “James, can you give me just 1 moment?” I found my keys and opened the apartment door, shutting it quickly behind me.
It was just as I had left it, cushions propped up at one end of the sofa from where I’d been watching TV, a pile of laundry in the washing basket, microwave door still open and kettle half full. I put the kids on the sofa and rushed around fixing the apartment up, mostly dusting the surfaces and opening the curtains. As I pushed the curtains aside to let sunlight stream into the apartment I noticed the diamonds on my skin and cursed, throwing on a cardigan. Exactly 3 minutes later I opened the door to find James waiting for me.
“You can come in now.” He sat down on the only armchair while I sat on the sofa, the twins were now playing on the floor.
“You look different. You look like you but then you don’t.”
“It’s the Italian food, does wonders to the skin.” An awkward silence spread across the air.
