Sophia's POV
Caius and I left the next day for our honeymoon. Caius was worried about taking me away from safety so close to my suspected due date, but I managed to persuade him enough to let us go to Venice, only 3½ hours from Volterra which was nothing in vampire speed.
We left the morning after our wedding with Felix and Demetri in tow. It was a long journey to Venice by car, but spending it with Caius made the time fly by.
Before I knew it we were on Venice's borders and clambering out the car. Felix and Demetri rushed off to check the hotel and restaurant reservations so Caius and I took a slow walk to the hotel. It was amazing to look at all the old architecture and bustling streets, even if Caius was being over-protective.
We arrived at the Bauer Hotel in Venice to be greeted by a doorman who gave us glasses of champagne. Caius looked at me but I ignored him and took a sip anyway. The foyer was beautiful with shiny marble floors and rich, merlot velvet curtains. Felix and Demetri were sat in two luxury armchairs waiting for us. They handed us the room key and left us to enter the elevator alone.
We stepped out the elevator directly into the Royal Suite which was furnished with only the most expensive pieces of furniture, original Terrazzo floors, Murano glass chandeliers hanging from the ceilings and even a ballroom. After standing in the entrance hall gazing at the most awe-inspiring suite in Venice I ran, or waddled in my state, to one of the windows to see the Grand Canal, Basilica and St. Mark's Basin. This had to be one of the most expensive hotel rooms in the world!
Caius came up from behind and wrapped his arms around me.
"You think this is amazing you should come see the master bedroom." He led me to two double doors, pushing them open to reveal a super-king sized bed with golden bedding and a diamond encrusted headboard. I ran my hand along the fabric and turned to Caius.
"You didn't have to do this for me, I would be happy in a cheap b&b as long as I was with you."
He smiled and walked over to me, gently lifting me up and placing me on the bed.
"I love you Sophia." He lightly kissed me before deepening the kiss and leading me into a whirlwind night of pleasure.
---
I awoke to an empty bed beside me with a note on the pillow.
My beautiful wife,
I have gone to feed and hope that I return in time to see you awake, but if that is not the case I want you to know I love you and will be home before you realise it.
Your ever devoting husband.
I got out of bed and wrapped my dressing gown around myself before heading towards the en-suite. I turned the taps on the wall to begin filling the massive bathtub that was built into the floor in the middle of the room and walked over to the mirror to look at my stomach. I was only around 14weeks by Caius' reckoning but looked much bigger. I found it crazy how the baby was growing a week for every day. I then looked at my body, I was skin and bones as though the baby was taking everything out of me. I turned the taps off and climbed into the tub, relaxing in the hot water and bubbles.
Caius soon arrived home and dragged me off to see the main sights of Venice like the San Marco piazza and a private tour around the Doge's Palace. After having lunch at a small Italian restaurant we took a gondola around the city. It was the perfect honeymoon, made better by the rich Italian cuisine and friendly locals.
Back at the hotel we were staring at the golden sunset from our balcony when Felix's phone rang inside the suite. Caius went to find out what was happening and feeling the cold I headed inside to the bedroom. Caius soon came and lay down beside me in the bed placing his hand on top of my stomach.
"I was worried you'd wandered off."
"I was just cold, that's all and tired from our busy day."
"Well try and get some sleep, we're going to Tuscany tomorrow and then to Piza before returning home." I soon drifted off in arms, imagining our lives together as a family.
---
I awoke in the middle of the night with pains in my stomach. Caius stood up from his chair where he was reading and ran over to me.
"Sophia? What's wrong? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?"
"I'm fine, I just had a funny pain."
"We need to get you home, now."
"No, let's finish our honeymoon."
"We can finish our honeymoon some other time, we need to make sure you're okay."
I dressed into slacks and we made our way back to the car. The journey home was uneventful with Caius constantly asking if I was okay. I kept telling him it was usual to have pains while you were pregnant, they were Braxton Hicks, but he didn't believe me. The moment we arrived Aro came over to us and told us that they had informed Carlisle of what had happened and that he was on his way.
Caius then escorted me back to the tower, but instead led me to a different wing of the castle.
He stopped outside a single door and opened it. I was speechless, it was the most amazing thing I could possibly imagine.
