Y/N POV

I woke up early morning to start the routine. Tractor driving, general handiwork, tending to livestock, ploughing, planting, and harvesting crops kept me busy every day. Especially on a sunny day like today.

After that, repeat on the neighbour's farm. I knew him as farmer G, G for grandfather which was what he was. It had been a week since his daughter's family came to see the farm, and the daughter shared the news with me that they would keep the farm, run it themselves with some help. It was a good choice.

"Good morning, Y/N," his daughter greeted as I helped out with the chores.

A few hours later, the granddaughter would appear. "Good morning, Y/N," Lisa said. I smiled at her.

"It's almost noon, Lisa," her mother replied.

"Good afternoon then," Lisa shrugged.

"Good afternoon," I replied finally. She smiled at me confidently as she walked past. She went into the stables and I followed out of curiosity because this was the first time she came out of the house to explore since she brought her luggage over.

Inside the stables, Lisa was greeting the horses. She was stopped at a particular white horse and pet it lovingly.

"Hey, boy," she said and she scratched the horse under its chin. "Remember me, Nian?"

"That's not Nian," I said and it seemed to have startled her.

"Don't do that. Why do you walk so quietly?" she said and pointed a fast finger at me.

"Her name's Nia," I corrected. "She's the daughter of Nian."

I pet Nia as well and she swatted my hand away. "Don't touch a lady without permission," she scolded and cooed at the horse. "It smells like shit in here, don't you ever air this place out? The horses must be suffering."

"It smells like shit because that's what the smell is," I said and leaned on the gate next to Nia's head and pet her hair. "Are you down here to join me for some work?"

She rolled her eyes, "As if... I'm only here because my mother wants me to be. I don't do chores so I'm treating this like a horrible vacation."

"It's not so bad here."

"Says the country boy."

I smiled at her reply and eventually a small smile appeared on her own face. I found myself attracted as I stared at her interacting with Nia. I was surprised she still remembered Nian, the original horse.

"Lisa, go make yourself useful and milk the cows. Y/N can show you if you ask him nicely." Her mother was in the stables, walking towards us with a bucket in her hand and a towel over her shoulder. She handed them to Lisa who hesitated. "Hurry to the barn."

"But I didn't have lunch yet and I'm hungry. Can I do it later?" Lisa whined.

"No. Go over there now and you don't have to eat until you've milked all the cows."

Lisa groaned, "I don't have farming clothes. My clothes will be ruined again."

"Then change. No excuses."

Her mother pet Nia before leaving the stables. Lisa pouted at the bucket and towel in her hands.

"I hate this vacation," she said.

"It's easy," I told her. "I'll show you how to do it."

"Whatever, country boy. Let's just get it over with so I can eat." She walked away and when I didn't follow she looked over her shoulder, "Well? Aren't you coming?"
