In a smaller neighborhood just outside of town sat a small little house. I'd say it's usually quiet but that wouldn't be quite right. The two living there have a tendency to bicker, as all siblings do, but that isn't happening today.
Instead, there's the shuffling as papers and books are moved aside and couch pillows overturned in a search for something important.
The green teen ran a hand through his blue dreadlocks as he anxiously looked around. He had to leave in 30 minutes and he had wasted most of his morning routine trying to find something.
"West?" Zuke calles out, his voice echoing through the house. He got a response though.
"Yeah?" DK West calles back,
"Have you seen my drum sticks?"
"Nah! Have you checked your bag?"
"Yeah they weren't there!"
"I donno where they could be then" Zuke let out a frustrated groan. Those were his good sticks and now he was going to be late for school because he misplaced them. After a few more minutes of searching Zuke could feel West walking over behind him.
"Still no luck bro?" He asked in his usual lackadaisical tone. Zuke shot him a harmless glare.
"Still nothing." He looked down with a sigh, "damnit, those were my favorite too" West gave him a harsh pat on the back.
"Eh, relax bro! They'll turn up eventually. And if not You can buy new ones. It's no issue" Zuke was about to argue against that idea but kept his mouth shut. Instead he looked back with a half hearted eye roll
"I guess so"
"That's the spirit!"
West pulled Zuke into a quick one arm hug, Grinning wide as he usually did. Zuke chuckled, finally giving his brother a small smile, and pulled away.
"I gotta get ready to go, if I wait any longer I'll be late"
"Alright alright, see ya later, Ewah!" West grinned as he waved and left to do... whatever he did. Probably head to work, West did have a few jobs.
Just what happens when you're the oldest in the house.
Zuke shook his head and went to his room to grab his school bag, pausing only to dig out his spare drumsticks, they aren't as good and the sound quality was off, but they'd work for now. And so with that, he went off to school.[into here Ewah!]
Zuke walked along the school hallways, passing by the idle chatter of various students as they waited for the first bell to ring. There was the usual talk of hobbies and activities, gossip, sports, talk of tests or homework, and the relatively new (but Zuke suspected would soon become commonplace) excited rambling of Kayane as she gushed about the new info she got for her Hero appreciation club. Though Zuke suspected this 'club' was little more than a thinly veiled 1010 Heros Fan club, not that he was about to judge. Zuke had just reached his locker and opened it to collect his books for the day when his energetic friend dashed over and nearly slammed into the locker next to him. He looked up in mild concern but as usual, Mayday was absolutely fine.
"Hey Zuke!" She greeted with a grin, trying to lean against the lockers like she hadn't just ran face first into them.
"Hey May" he greeted back like she hadn't done that either. "What's up?"
"Well I found a new song I wanna learn, I printed out the sheet music, I'll give it to ya during lunch. If we can learn this and get the other songs down we should have a solid line up for a concert, then when we get a spot at an indie festival we can really look like we're a real official band!" Mayday's magenta eyes shimmered in excitement as she explained. Zuke listened with a calm smile, nodding along happily as he put away the books he didn't need.
"Sounds fun, I'll give it a look. Though uh, heads up. I might sound a little off today at practice. I lost my usual sticks and have to use a spare." He tried to hide his disappointment, but Mayday picked up on it easily. Her smile fell as she looked immediately concerned.
"What! Oh man I'm sorry dude! I'll check the band room when I get the chance. Where'd you last see em?"
"Last I had them they were in my bag. I don't remember taking them out." Zuke explained as he placed a folder into his backpack. "My only guess is I misplaced them at home or, gods forbid, someone stole them."
"I hope nobody stole them! If they did I'd kick their teeth in!" Mayday exclaimed foe punching the air to prove her point. Zuke gave a quiet chuckle in response,
"I hope so too, it's probably not what happened anyway. Those things are really well worn, not worth anything to someone who doesn't know their drumming equipment. Even if they did they only really have sentimental value," he sighed as he slung his backup over his shoulder. "But thanks for keeping an eye out May."
"Of course! That's what I'm here for buddy!" Mayday put her hands on her hips confidently, grinning up at her best friend. Zuke chuckled with a smile.
"Anyway, what've you been up to lately?" And just like that mayday took the bait and launched into rambling about her latest project. They continued like that until their first class, math. Mayday had this class with him, she groaned.
"Uuuugh! I hate math."
"Really? Last week you said it was your favorite subject."
"That's because last week we were doing math that I got, now we've got fractions and I'm so lost I don't know what I'm even supposed to ask for help!" Zuke tried to sympathize, he'd offer to help but then he'd have to admit he also was confused on the subject.
Least they were lost together then.
