Your eyes traced over the stars that hung themselves over the ground, the white pinpoints shining brightly as you observed each one from inside your infirmary room; the window at your right was tightly shut, locked at the top to ensure everyone's safety despite the fact that the glass it was keeping in place could easily be shattered by anyone with the means or proper intent to enter. The few trees that you could see shifted back and forth as they swayed with the persuasion of a tender breeze, the typically vibrant leaves covered in a shade of black as the distant spots of light didn't provide enough illumination for you to see all of them -it seemed to be the same for the brush below, the few shrubs that decorated the roots of said plants were no exception to the lack of light, being just as hard to make out as the feuilles above them.
That wasn't to say that it was a cloudy night though, no; matter of fact, despite the moon and its illuminating abilities being out of your view, the outside floor was lit up just enough for you to make out certain blades of grass -the very same ones that had already been affected by the morning dew that was just beginning to settle upon the world.
Overall, you had to say that it was a relatively clear night.
The current state of the outdoors quite contrasted with your internal thoughts however, your mind not getting a true moment's rest ever since you had lied to Mikasa -but not for the reasons you would have originally thought for. You simply couldn't figure out why you didn't feel bad for being untruthful, 'I mean, yeah, I didn't want to upset her, but I don't even feel bad for telling her that I wasn't hoping for anyone in particular. Shouldn't I regret doing that? I usually would anyways...'
Biting back a sigh, you readjusted your placement in your cot and tried to take your mind off of the matter, 'There's no point in worrying about it right now I suppose, although I have a feeling that's not the only reason why I can't sleep right now.' you reasoned with yourself, 'The fact that I slept for actual days probably has something to do with that as well.' The écharpe that you still donned was only visible to you from the faint lighting the window allowed to seep into your room, nothing else bright enough to provide you with sight, even with your well-adjusted hues.
Mikasa was at your left, her soft snores and other minute mumbles in her sleep just in your hearing range as you tried your best to look over at her -her sleeping form was facing towards you, hugging her pillow to her chest with her hair messily dotted around her head; the blanket draped over her went up to her shoulders, leaving just part of her arms, her neck, and her face in your sight -and before you knew it, you found yourself staring at the girl with a smile growing on your face, the image too wholesome for you to keep it hidden away, 'I don't know how she's able to be one of the strongest soldiers in the Training Regiment while also being so cute. I truly didn't think it possible unt-'
ᵀᵃᵖ, ᵗᵃᵖ, ᵗᵃᵖ.
The unexpected sound caused your eyes to widen, snapping your focus away from your girlfriend and to the window where it seemed to emit from -from the outside was a small amberd glow that revealed a shaded face to you, "ᴬⁿⁿⁱᵉ?" you whispered, cocking a brow at the sight of the girl still in her uniform -genuinely having to ask yourself if you fell asleep somehow at the random sight of her.
A pinch on your arm confirmed that you were not, in fact, sleeping.
It didn't seem as if she could hear your voice, but in the end it didn't matter as she simply gestured for you to open the glass frame with her left hand, her right one holding the lantern that you were sure aided her in her trek all the way over to the infirmary, 'What is she doing here so late? No, what is she doing here in general? Especially so late into the night; if the doctor wasn't lying before about three days passing, there's training going on later today. Did something bad happen?' You felt a small worry burrow itself into your stomach, taking place as your main emotion as you flickered your hues over to Mikasa and noted that she was still snoozing away, 'I don't wanna just leave her out there if something did, not to mention that she came all this way -for me to turn her back would be unnecessarily cruel, even more so with how much she's helped me. I'll just have to pray to whoever may or may not be out there that Mika doesn't wake up while I'm talking to her.'
