Chapter 16:Raven

Tears welled up in Tara's eyes almost uncontrollably and before I knew it, she ran out the tent and out of my sight.

In frustration I kicked the chair that she was once sitting on. I wanted to hate her, but the fact was, she said she searched for me and that mother even died afterward... but could I believe her? A hooded figure stepped into the tent and broke my reverie of thought, my mood has gone from bad to worst.

"Still a short fuse I see, " he spoke jokingly, "You never change do you, Maria!"

"Someone like you shouldn't be talking about change Sage" I countered venomously.

His smile dropped immediately and his eyes became darker, "What happened was out of my control Mar-"

I raised my hand up in defiance, I didn't want to hear his pathetic excuse.

"You are the reason I can not trust anymore Sage, so please- leave." I muttered in finality.

"Doll, just let me explain," he pleaded, "After 9 years. don't you want to know the truth!"

"No Sage, I don't!" I command, my gaze still emotionless, "I don't want to bring back the past, I will leave first thing tomorrow and don't call me doll!"

He sighed, and then slowly left the tent, his shoulders slumped down and his eyes on the floor.

When he finally left my line of sight, I slumped down on the mattress, I knew my sleep would be filled with nothing but nightmares...

"Doll, boss will be searching for us!" A blued eyed, dark haired boy shouted, his lips curled into a smirk as he looked at the struggling girl in front of him.

"I am - ugh- com-ugh-ing!" Maria shouted, trying to swing the sword out of the tree that she has got it stuck in. 15 year old Maria was really not the best with a sword.

"Sage help me ! You annoying brat!" Maria yells in annoyance at the boy that couldn't help but laugh at her friends pathetic state before, stepping toward her and helping her pull the sword out.

"Com one Sage, boss will kill us !" Maria yelled before attempting to run up the hill. Suddenly Sage caught onto her hand.

" A flower for the love of my life!" he said before giving Maria a pink tulip from the ground.

Maria pretended to gag before taking the flower.

"When you will you stop pranking me, it's so stupid!" she said, on the verge of laughing.

The boy only shrugged as they climbed up the hill.Little did Maria know that Sage was never pranking her.She saw him as a friend, he didn't.

That night, the whole gang gathered in the cabin, their boss was sitting on the head chair discussing plans and things were normal. The only ones that were not at the table were Maria, Sage and Charlie, who has stepped out to use the bathroom just minutes ago.

The cabin was peaceful until ten Arani marched into the tiny ram shack place in a frenzy of shooting and killing.Before they knew it, everyone in the Cabin was dead. Everyone but Sage, Raven and Charlie who were luckily outside.

They immediately ran into the area- everyone was dead.Not a single person alive!

"Who did this!" Sage yelled in anger.

"It was Maria!" Charlie yelled abruptly.

"What!" Maria and Sage screamed in unison.

"She went out without telling us the reason," he explained, " and she was the only one who hates the boss so she informed the Arani."

"That's dumb, I did go out without telling but I never hated the boss-" Maria tried to reason, looking at her best friend, expecting him to support her.

"Why did you go out!" he asked her instead, earning a shocked expression from her.

"Sage you know that-" she tried to reason but he wasn't ready to hear it.

"Why did you go!" he spat at her menacingly.

That night, Charlie and Sage left young Maria to die in the forest.She cried herself to sleep on the first day, she would have never believed it if someone told her that Sage killed the family but it didn't take him more than a few minutes to believe that she was the murderer.When she trusts some one she expects the same from them, but clearly this world does not work that way.That night she made an oath to stop herself from trusting too many people.She would only trust if NECESSARY or if the person was really close to her...

Wasn't Sage close to her ?

He was, but that doesn't mean he trusts her and this broke her heart.

Maria woke up from her horrible night mare- another part of her life that she buries inside herself had come out the moment she saw him again.

Why was everything so difficult...
