After eating we had gotten back in the car and headed on our way to the house. Before I knew it we were pulling into a roundabout driveway. I looked up at the house, my eyes first found the dark brown front door with a lion head door knocker. On every other side of the porch on the wood beams under the roof are lamps. They have a bright yellow glow of light. The house overall is huge. My mouth hung down slightly in shock at the house's beauty.
"Woah, " I breathed out with wide eyes. I got out of the truck and got to the back seat to help grandpa Holt grab my bags. I looked back to the house. It was beautiful and made of dark brown wood and was well kept for being centuries old.
"Come on, I'll show you to your room. Some other rules I have are that you aren't allowed out after dark unless I give permission. The woods though are off. limits. no. matter. what and especially. at. night." Ok, he made that perfectly clear with his emphasis.
"Yes sir, " I politely responded. Yeah, I'm the from who says please and thank you and uses ma'am and sir. What, my parents might be gone and I might not be over the moon thrilled with this but I don't have to be rude. And! He hasn't given me any reason.
We walked up the porch steps and through the front door of the monstrous house. You know it kind of gives me the same vibe as the Salvatore house from the vampire diaries but a little smaller. The inside was decorated with dark browns and other neutral colors with red. The only bright color, popping against the other neutral colors. To the left was the staircase which I followed up caring one of the wheely suitcases. From the top of the steps, we take a right and walk past three doors. Ok, I should probably remember that. Grandpa Holt stops at the fourth one at the end. The door was dark oak but had blue and silver star stickers. He sat his hand on the knob and took a deep breath, almost as if this was painful for him. Once he turned it the door slowly opened with a creak. Holt walked in but stopped in the doorway and turned a bit to turn on the light. He walked in further setting my two bags on the floor by a white four-post bed win h sheer lilac colors.
"This was your mother's room when she was around your age. If you wish to make changes we can. It's pretty clean for being so many years, I kept in with it but kept things the way she left them other than a few pencils left out or things that were out of place." I looked around the room. The flooring was hardwood with a mustard yellow carpet. The furniture was all dark brown-ish red matching the floors. The bed was a four past bed with teal sheets and pillowcases but the comforter was a dark green background with pink, yellow, navy blue, and other colored flowers. Like a design from the Victorian period. The dresser was by the door and light switch. It had some jewelry on it and sticky notes with little quotes on the ticking to the mirror. On the wall beside where the dresser is, is where the bed is, and on either side are nightstands with white lamps that have monarch butterflies on them. On the other side of the bed, the wall opposite the dresser is a bay window with the windows framed by white curtains. On one side of it is a bookcase. The window has mustard yellow cushions and a few blankets stacked. On the last was beside the bathroom door is a best with all types of pens and a stack of books and journals. The walls are a maroon color that goes with the house but has a painting of little bluebirds. One is a lemon tree and the other is a sunflower. There even a painting of a wolf hung by the desk. It's a beautiful room. As goes with the house but has my mother's nature.
"This room is amazing. Thank you grandpa Holt." I smiled softly at him. He nodded his head and stood up straight as I headed to the bed.
"Oh, the sheets are actually new as well as the mattress." He pointed out, "I'm off to bed. You will probably be asleep when I leave for work. My number will be on the fridge along with some cash to get what you need from the store. Sleep well Summer."
"Thank you. Goodnight, " I wave bye as he left out the door and shut it behind him. After hearing the door shut I decided to at least start cleaning up some things and unpacking my bags. I look at the books and journals and other supplies on the desk and I'm guessing they're for school on Monday. Oh yay. Actually, I'm gonna snoop around the room and do through some things. My mom was the type of person to keep a lot of things that were basically trash... Oh who am I kidding, I'm my mother's daughter. The first stop is the dresser. She has some really pretty jewelry. One caught my eye though. A wolf with warm amber-brown jeweled eyes. I picked up the necklace and held it up to my neck and checked it out in the mirror. It's gorgeous, studying the wolf through the mirror the eyes almost look like there shimmering or glowing. I looked back up to my own eyes and had to blink once or twice. I must be going crazy. There's no way my eyes were glowing too. Ugh, jetlags making me crazy. Maybe I should go to sleep. I head for my bag to grab a pair of PJs and my stomach rumbled. You're still hungry? I questioned my starch and actually received a yes. Well, it was more of another gurgle or dying alien noise but it still counts. I should have some leftover snacks in my purse. Digging around in my bag is like digging around in Mary Poppins' purse. Only worse. Eventually, I found a small pack of goldfish and scarfed it down. Now for a shower and bed.
I when I had gone into the bathroom I also found the closet and three or four boxes. They must be mom's clothes. After my shower, I had wrapped my hair in the towel to dry it and brushed my teeth. I had put on an old school t-shirt and leggings. I'm not sure how cold it will get so while my hair is still drying I'm digging around in yet another bag for a hoodie to sleep beside me. Note to Self- Tomorrow I must unpack and organize everything. I found an Orange Beach sweatshirt from an old vacation then unwrapped my hair and brushed it. Still a little damp but who cares. I grab my phone and charger and look for a plug on one of the nightstands. I end up with the one on my right and turned on the lamp. I then got out an old framed picture I keep with me, the rest will be here when the other stuff gets here. It's just a picture of my parents I took at the zoo when they weren't looking. They were looking at the giraffes together and my dad has one arm around my mom's she pets one's nose that came up to her to be fed. I turn off the overhead light and then the lamp after turning on my Disney playlist and getting comfy.
Soon I drifted off to sleep.
