"Him Who?" Jessica asked looking at her confused.
"Derek."
"Who Is Derek?"
"The guy I meet yesterday at the club." Kelly said.
Jessica looked at the direction Kelly was looking at and saw a good looking guy with a coffee cup in one hand and his phone in another. She looked back at Kelly and saw that she was nervous yet excited.
She sat back down while pulling Kelly down with her.
"Are you talking about the guy sitting looking at his phone?" Jessica whispered in her ear.
"Yes. That's Derek."
"Ok then go talk to him."
"What?" Kelly said giving an 'are you kidding' look to her.
"Go up to him and start a conversation."
"How am I suppose to walk up and start talking to him?"
"Just go over there, ask if someone is sitting with him, he will say no, then you sit and just talk to him. Oh and don't forget to ask for his phone number." Jessica said.
"What if he thinks I'm stocking him?"
"He won't. Just go." Jessica said while giving Kelly a little push.
Kelly was walking towards him when he loses his eye content with his phone and meets her eyes.
"Hey." He said.
"Hey I'm..." She started before being cut off by him.
"Kelly, right?"
"Yeah."
She stood there for a while just lost in his eyes. She couldn't believe such amazing eyes were looking at hers. She also couldn't believe that he remembered her name.
"Do you want to sit down?" He asked while pointing the chair next to him which brought her out of her thoughts.
"Um yeah, unless that's someone's sit." She said nervously.
He chuckled a little.
"No, it's just me."
He pulled out the chair and she sat down while he was still looking at her. She looked back at Jessica who was smiling and giving her a thumbs up.
"Do you come to this coffee shop often?" He asked and she focused back on him.
"Yeah. It's my favorite one."
"Nice. This has been the only one I've been to, but I like it."
"So are you visiting?"
"Yeah. I'm on vacation."
"Oh, so where are you from?" She asked.
"I live in New York, but I was born in Germany."
"How long did you live in Germany?"
"Until I was six."
"Is that why you don't have a German accent?" She said and he chuckled showing his pearly whites.
"Yeah I guess. But what about you? You live here?"
"Yes. I have my whole life."
"So you can show me all the hot spots, huh?"
She smiled and felt herself blushing. Suddenly his phone rang and he stood up.
"I'm sorry but I'm going to have to take this."
"Oh it's fine." She said while he walked outside.
Kelly looked at Jessica and saw that she was confused. Kelly signaled her that he had a call and was coming back. Jessica then signaled if she got his phone number. She shook her head and Jessica walked to where Kelly was sitting.
"Why won't you get his number?"
"I can't just all of a sudden say, oh can I have your number. I was building up to it."
"You are overthinking this. Just ask him."
"I'm going to."
"You have to do it before he leaves."
"Ok."
"Because if you don't, you are going to miss out. He is super hot and to be honest I'm a little jealous."
"Of what?"
"Of him being so into you."
"You think so?" Kelly asked.
"Duh, you can so tell. He won't stop smiling at you."
"Really?"
"Yes, so just ask for his number. He won't be able to..." Jessica was saying before hearing the door open and seeing Derek walk in. Jessica quickly turned around to face the counter making it look like she was debating on what to order.
"Sorry about that." Derek said as he sat back down.
"No it's alright."
"It was my mom and I couldn't just ignore it. You would think she would get tired of me after 22 years." He said while smiling and Jessica slowing walked back to her sit.
Kelly thought to herself, he is older than me so maybe this isn't a good idea, but I'm turning 19 in two months which means he is just three years older than me so it's not that bad.
She was snapped out of her thoughts as she saw him staring at her.
"You ok?" He asked realizing that she stood quiet for a while.
"Um yeah. It's just that..." She thought for a second and then continued "my parents passed away two years ago in a boating accident."
"Oh my god. I'm so sorry."
"Yeah, so I wish my mom could call me. I wish I still had her and my dad in my life."
"Sorry to hear that."
"It's ok." She said looking down.
"Well my dad, he left my mom and I when I was only 10 months old. My mom says it was a blessing when he left but I can't help but wish I had a father in my life."
"I can't imagine that. Growing up without a dad. I at least had them for most of my life."
They both sat there silently for a while until Derek spoke up.
"Well let's talk about happier things."
"I agree." She said while smiling.
"Are you going back to that club?"
"No. I don't really like clubs. That was actually my first time ever being in a club."
"Oh really?" He asked.
"Yeah I'm more into being at the beach or home." She said realizing she sounded boring.
"I think you should give the club another chance." He said smiling at her.
"Ok, maybe I will."
He asked for her phone and put his number in and they both made plans to see each other that night in the same club. He hugged her goodbye and then walked out the coffee shop. Jessica ran to Kelly with a huge smile on her face. They stood there laughing and talking for a while until they decided to finally go to the mall.
**************
They walked around the mall talking about what happened in the coffee shop.
"I told you he was into you." Said Jessica.
"He is so amazing Jessy. He is kind and sweet and so easy to talk to. Any other guy would hate to talk and just want to get straight the point, but he's not like that."
"If I didn't know any better I would say you have a crush on him."
"No, I mean maybe, I mean yeah, well I don't know. I guess I do." Kelly said while smiling.
"You guess? He's the only reason why you're going back to the club."
"No Jessy, he's not. I want to go back, I want to have fun with my summer."
"Yeah you want to have fun with him." Jessica said teasing. "And I don't blame you."
"We are just going to hang out it's not like were going to do anything bad."
"Oh whatever, so are you going to text him?"
"What would I say?"
"Maybe a I can't wait to see you." Jessica said moving her eyebrows up and down.
They laughed and after entering a couple of stores they decided to go back to Kelly's and her brother's apartment. On the way back to Kelly's apartment she couldn't stop thinking about Derek and seeing him at the club. When they reach their destination and walked inside she ran to her room to find something to wear for that night.
"Kelly, you do understand that it doesn't matter what you wear, he is still going to want you." Jessica said as she sat on Kelly's bed and watched her scramble through her closet.
"I still want to look good."
"You will. Don't worry."
"How am I supposed to look good when I don't have a dress to wear? Could I borrow one of yours?"
"Of course!"
And with that they were on their way to Jessica's apartment that she shared with her boyfriend Andrew.
"Hey sweetie." Said Andrew to Jessica.
"Hey honey, we are just here to get some clothes for Kelly's date tonight."
"It's not a date Jessy."
"Oh yes it is."
"With who?" Asked Andrew as he watched the football game happening on the TV.
"This guy she met at the club yesterday named Derek."
"It's not a date."
"Kelly it's a date."
"Well be careful." Said Andrew.
Jessica and Andrew have been dating for a while and Kelly and Andrew got along good. He is like a second older brother to her.
"I will." Kelly answered as she and Jessica walked into her room.
It was hard for Kelly to find a dress that she liked because all the dresses that Jessica had were not her style. They were too short or too low or had something that Kelly didn't like, but after what felt like centuries they found a dress that Kelly fell in love with. It was a red dress with lace sleeves and a lace back. It came up a little bit above her knees and fit her just right.
"There, that wasn't so bad." Jessica said while looking at Kelly.
"Thanks Jess. I love it."
"Anytime. And you're going to look amazing tonight."
The rest of the day they spent watching movies on the couch and making plans for tomorrow. Jessica made macaroni and cheese for them to eat for lunch which was Andrew's favorite. Kelly got a text from her brother saying that he and his band was now in Georgia. She smiled knowing that her brother was a little bit closer to getting home. Jessica knew that Kelly has never hung out alone with a guy she liked before so she felt like it was up to her to get Kelly ready for the date. She told her the do's and don't's of dating. Before Kelly knew it was time to get ready for the club. Kelly was starting to feel really nervous and second-guessing whether or not to go.
"Kelly you should go. You said so yourself you want your summer to be fun." Jessica said.
"I know, I know but I would feel a lot better if you guys went with me."
"What like a double date?" Asked Jessica
"No, maybe you guys can just be there and supervise."
"Are you scared to be around him?"
"No Jessy, it's just that I would feel more comfortable if I knew my friends were somewhere near."
"That doesn't sound bad. She would feel better with us around and we can have fun ourselves." Commented Andrew.
"Yeah, please." Kelly said putting her two hands together and giving Jessica puppy dog eyes.
Jessica looked at both of them before speaking.
"Ok."
"Yay. Thank you thank you."
"But let's get one thing clear, you are not going to ditch him for us. You are there to hang out with him not us." Said Jessica.
"Ok yes. That's all I wanted."
So with that all three of them started to get ready to head to the club. Andrew was ready before the girls so he sat on the couch waiting for them. A little bit after that Kelly was ready. She stared at herself in the mirror and felt for the first time in her life that she was becoming a beautiful young women. She took a deep breath in, and deep breath out as Jessica finished putting on her last bit of makeup. When they were all done they got in Jessica's car and headed to the club. Kelly texted Derek for the first time that she was on her way not mentioning she had back up. Moments after that Derek texted back saying he was already there. When they got there, there was a huge line that caused them to stand waiting for half an hour. Kelly texted Derek what was going on and he was very understanding.
When they finally got in the club Jessica and Andrew walked to the bar and Kelly found Derek near the entrance.
"Hey you." Derek said as he gave her a hug.
"Hey."
"You look very beautiful." He said leaning close to her.
"Thanks." Kelly said as she started blushing.
"Do you want to drink?"
"No thank you I'm actually underage."
"Oh Really?"
"Yeah I'm 18 almost 19."
"Well would you like some water?" He said smiling down at her.
"No thanks. I think I going to sit down for a while."
"Oh of course." He said as he grabbed her hand and took her to where he was sitting.
She couldn't help but look at his muscles and his butt again. His white button up shirt was a little see through and his khaki pants were fitted just right. She looked at his straight brown hair that was slick back. She thought he looked perfect. Like a model straight out of a magazine.
"Here we go." He said stopping in front of a modern white couch.
As Kelly was sitting down she looked around to see if she found the bar where Jessica and Andrew were and it just so happen to be nearby. She looks for Jessica and Andrew but she couldn't find them, maybe they already left the bar. Derek sat next to her, shoulder to shoulder which made Kelly nervous.
"So Kelly, what does your day consist of?"
"Um well I go to the beach most of the time."
"What do you do there?"
"I swim."
"You like swimming?"
"Yes. I love it."
"Well as you probably know New York isn't know for its beaches." Derek said and Kelly laughed.
"Have you gone to any beach?"
"Um no. Ive been in Miami for five days and I still haven't gone to the beach."
"How long are you going to be here for?"
"A little over a month."
"Wow. That's a long vacation. I bet it cost you an arm"
"Yeah. I spent months and months working hard but it was all worth it knowing I would be vacationing in the great Miami Florida." He said smiling.
"Where do you work at?"
"I'm a professor in New York State Collage of Human Ecology."
"Oh."
"Were you not expecting that?"
In her head she said yes, she was not expecting him to be a professor. He was too good looking to be a teacher. But her mind soon filled with images of him teaching a class and him pointing to things on a board with a ruler. She soon became jealous of all his students that got to see him day after day. All of a sudden a question popped in her mind and before thinking, it came out of her mouth.
"Why are you single?"
He chuckled a little and then responded.
"While it might have something to do with my money. I have a lot of it. I'm not trying to sound cocky or arrogant, it's just true. People in New York know that and they try using me for it which makes it hard to trust and what's a relationship without trust." He stopped for a second and then continued. "Why do you ask?" He said.
Because she thought he was amazing and so perfect but she didn't what to say that. She just sat there silently.
"Do you want to dance?" He asked her as he stood up and held his hand in front of her.
She looked down at his hand and then up at his blue eyes.
"Ok." She said as she placed her hand in his.
He took her out to the dance floor where they started to sway back and forth to the slow song. He put one of his hands on her side and held her hand with his other one. She felt him slowly pulling her towards his body. Her heart started beating uncontrollably. She looked up at his face to see him looking at her. She looked away from him when she felt their chest tough. She felt tingled inside. She felt consumed in that feeling. His chest would rub against her which would cause her to gasp a little. Just as he was about to say something, she felt a tap on her shoulders. She backed away from Derek as she turn around to see who tapped her. Derek was confused as to who the person was.
"What are you doing here?" Asked Kelly.
