Kelly stormed to her room and slammed the door.
"Kelly, what's wrong?" Asked Jessica while knocking on her door.
Kelly was crying into her pillow so she took a deep breath than answered.
"My brother!"
"What happened? I heard you say you hated him."
"Yes it's because I do!"
Jessica slowly opened the door knowing that her friend could use a hug. She walked towards Kelly's bed. Kelly looked up at Jessica and began crying again. Jessica hugged her and that's when Kelly started to express her feelings.
"All I want is for him to comfort me and talk to me like he use to but no, he has to be rude and selfish."
"What did he say?"
"I asked if he could come home and he was like no I can't. I'm working and I'm too busy."
Jessica rubbed her hand on Kelly's back.
"Ever since our parents passed away he has been acting like his band mates are his family. He hasn't been acting like a big brother."
"Maybe it's his way of coping with the lost."
Kelly looked up at her as she continued to talk.
"Everybody has a different way of dealing with the loss of loved ones. I'm not saying what he is doing is right, I'm just saying that he loves you and will always be there for you. Even if it doesn't feel like it, even if he gets on your nerves he still cares a lot about you. And even if you feel like you hate him, you could never."
Kelly put her face into her hands.
"I just need my big brother back." Kelly said sobbing.
Jessica hugged Kelly again and then stood up.
"Wait here." She told Kelly.
Kelly watched Jessica walk out of the room and soon heard her talking on the phone.
"Nicholas I think you need to come back home and talk to your sister."
Kelly walked to the living room where Jessica was. She looked at Jessica with a confused face.
"Yeah she needs you."
"What are you doing?" Kelly asked Jessica.
"So you're on your way?"
"Jessica?" Kelly said.
"Okay, bye." Jessica said as she hung up the phone.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Helping you guys fix your problems." Jessica answered.
Kelly rubbed the tears off her face.
"So what, he's coming?" Kelly asked.
"Yes he is."
Just as Kelly was about to speak she heard your phone ringing from her room. She ran and saw that it was a text from Derek. It read can't want to see your beautiful face again. Kelly smiled and wrote back can't wait to see yours. She looked at the time and it said 3:45.
"Do you want me to leave you guys so y'all can talk or..." Jessica was intruded by Kelly.
"No, you called him so you stay." Kelly said.
"Ok, ok." Jessica said with a mocking voice.
Kelly giggled a little and so did Jessica. They both walked to the living room to sit and wait for Nicholas. Couple minutes after sitting watching TV, the doorbell rang. They looked at the door and saw the doorknob moving. Kelly's mind started going in all directions. She thought to herself what if one of the bad guy's friends coming after her because she sent him to jail. Or worst, what if it is the bad guy after her.
"Nicholas probably rang the doorbell to warn us that he is coming in." Jessica said when she saw that Kelly was freaking out. Kelly looked at Jessica with a 'are you sure' look. Jessica opened her mouth to talk but just then the door opened. They turned their heads to face the doorway.
"Hey." Nicholas said.
Kelly stayed quite so Jessica tapped her arm. She turn to Jessica and Jessica gave her a face so she stood up and said hey back. They just stood there looking at each other until Jessica decided to speak.
"Um, I'll be in Kelly's room if y'all need me." She said as she walked away looking one last time at Kelly who was obviously not happy. Kelly looked back at Nicholas and then spoke up.
"We should sit." She said while walking towards the couch.
Kelly sat down and he soon followed after.
"Kelly... I um I just wanted to... to say I'm sorry."
"What?"
"I'm sorry."
"Huh?"
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry."
"Oooohhh."
"Kelly you and I both know you heard me. You just want me to say it again and again."
"Maybe, maybe not." Kelly said with a little smile.
"Well, I mean it." Nicholas said as he grabbed her hand and continued.
"I was just mad at myself for not being there for you last night and I took out my anger on you and that's not right."
"Nick, I..." Kelly started but he cut her off.
"No Kelly, please let me finish."
Kelly was surprised that he was saying sorry and owning up to what he did because he had never done it.
"I'm so anger at myself. The guy that you just meet protected you more then I did and I hate that. I'm your big brother. I'm the one that shouldn't let anything bad happened to you. So I'm sorry that I.. sorry that I failed as your older brother." Nicholas said while tears escaped his eyes.
There was a moment where no one spoke. There was just tears and stares. Kelly put her hand over Nicholas's hand and took a deep breath to began to speak.
"There was no way you could've known that that was going to happen."
"I know but.."
"But nothing" Kelly said cutting him off and then continuing.
"You can't always protect me but what you can do is be there for me when I need support."
Nicholas rubbed off the tears on his face with his sleeve and then whipped the tears off Kelly's face.
They giggled when relieving that Jessica was in Kelly's room.
"Jessica probably thinks we are crazy." Nicholas said.
They both laughed and then heard Kelly's door open.
"Aw!" Jessica said.
"Were you listening this whole time?" Kelly asked.
"Of course I was." Jessica said while she jump on the couch.
They all laughed and decide to watch some TV. Kelly told her brother about buying pepper spray and showed him it. She also said that she has a date with Derek that night. They had fun laughing and just hanging out. Nicolas made some bologna and cheese sandwiches for them to snack on. He also talked about how his tour went and that he feels like they are becoming well known.
He spent also two hours with them until he had to go back to practice. Kelly was fine with it and plus, she had to start doing her hair for her date anyways. She was happy that her brother opened up to her and spent some time with her. Nicholas hugged her and Jessica goodbye. Soon after that Kelly took a shower and then started on her hair. Jessica was showing her the outfits she thought looked good. After what felt like forever Kelly finally decide on a nice light pink blouse with a white necklace and a black and white silk skirt with black heels. Once Kelly finished straighten her hair, she put on the outfit. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was 6:20.
"So, do you think he's going to ask you to be his girlfriend?"
"Jessica, this is going to be our first date."
"Well technically it's like your second."
"I don't think he will." Kelly said while putting on her makeup.
"Why?"
"I don't know because he doesn't live here. He is going to have to go back to New York."
"Maybe he can take you."
"Why do you want me to be in a relationship with him?"
"Maybe because I see how happy he makes you. Maybe I want you to be happy. Why don't you want to be in a relationship with him?"
"It's not that I don't, it's just. It's just that it is hard for me to believe that a guy like him would like a girl like me."
"What are you talking about?"
"You know. I'm not like other girls. I'm not thin or experienced."
"Kelly Paige William, you are beautiful and any guy would be lucky to have a chance with you."
"Of course you are going to say that, you're my best friend."
"Kelly it's the truth."
"Then why have I never had a boyfriend?"
"Because high school boys are stupid. Kelly, there is nothing wrong with you. You are gorgeous and you are right. You are not like other girls and that's why you have a super hot guy interested in you."
Kelly smiled thinking about Derek and how good looking and sweet he is. Kelly's phone started ringing so she walked to her room to find her phone. She saw that Derek texted her asking for her address. She looked at the time and saw it was 6:25.
"Did he text you?"
"Yeah, he asked for my address so I have to finish my makeup. He will be on his way soon."
"But it's not even 7:00."
"Maybe it's going to take him a while to get here."
"Or maybe he planned something else before the date."
"You think so?"
"It's a possibility."
She texted her address so he could come and pick her up. When she finished her makeup she sat at the diner room table and soon got up to walk around because she was just too nervous.
"Nervous much?"
"Jessy, what do I say? What do I do?"
"Just talk to him like you've been doing."
"Are you sure that's going to work?"
"It's been working so far." Jessica said while laughing.
"I hate this feeling."
"Well get use to it. That's how you feel when you like someone."
"Are you sure I look fine?"
"Kelly, you look great. You have nothing to worry about."
"Well that's where you're wrong. I have to worry about not tripping on this heels."
They both giggled a little but all of a sudden the doorbell rang.
"Jessy, I really like this guy and I don't want to make a fool of myself."
"You won't Kelly. He really likes you too. You'll be fine."
The doorbell rang again which gave a push to Kelly.
"You'll be fine." Said Jessica as she hugged her.
Kelly walked towards the door while Jessica went to Kelly's room. Kelly turned around and didn't see Jessica so she turned to face the door and opened it.
"Wow Kelly, you look amazing." Derek said as he looked at her outfit.
"Thanks." Kelly said while she felt her face getting red.
"Sorry I came early it's just that I have a surprise before the dinner. I hope it's ok."
"Um, yeah it's fine."
Kelly couldn't help herself. She stared at him with his hair slick back, his tight black shirt with his khaki pants and brown belt and shoes. She smelled his cologne which smelled delicious to her. She looked at his eyes which were breathtaking. She finally snapped out of her thoughts when she heard a car drive into the parking lot. She looked back one last time but still didn't see Jessica. She grabbed her wrist purse, walked outside and locked the door. She then turned around and found Derek holding a red rose.
"Beautiful rose for a beautiful girl."
"Oh Derek. Thank you." She said while smiling and grabbing the flower.
"So, are you ready to go?"
"Yes." She said as he grabbed her hand.
He walked her to his car which was a 2014 Rolls-Royce Phantom but of course she didn't know because she doesn't know anything about cars. All she knew was that it was expensive.
"This is your car?" She asked.
"Well I rented it but I have one just like it back in New York. Every time I travel I like to rent a car that looks just like mine. Why did you asked?"
"It's just that I can tell this is an expensive car." She said as he opened the car door for her.
"I know I shouldn't be wasting that much money on a car but after working as hard as I do, I like to spoil myself just a little." He said as she got in and he closed the door.
He walked over to the drivers seat, opened the door, sat down, and closed it.
"I feel like life is too short to not be happy or do what makes you happy, you know?" He said while turning on the car.
"Yeah, it's like you need to live your life for you, not anyone else."
He turned to face her and she looked back at him.
"Exactly." He said to her while smiling.
She smiling back and felt a little less nervous. She loved how easy it was to talk to him. She loved how perfect he was.
"So after the surprise destination, we will go to dinner."
"Sounds good." She said and with that they were on their way.
After driving for a couple of minutes they parked at the beach.
"We've made it." He said as he got out of the car and opened her door.
"Thanks." She said as she got out of the car.
"So I know what your thinking. What are we doing here?" He said.
She looked up at him and saw that he was looking at her. He grabbed her hand and continued.
"Well you will see but first you are going to have to take your shoes off."
She sat back down in the car and he helped her take her shoes off. He held on to the shoes and when she stood up, he closed the door.
"Now we are ready." He said as he grabbed her hand again.
They walked on the beach near the water and Kelly would steal glances at him every once in a while. She felt like she was in a dream. She thought it was too perfect to be real and then suddenly he stopped walking. She looked up from the sand and saw that they were standing near the harbor where a huge and elegant looking yacht was stationed. She looked up at Derek and he looked down at her.
"That is were we are going to have dinner." He told her.
Kelly stood there speechless not knowing what to say. She kept staring at the yacht not believing that she was going to be on it.
"Are you ok with that or..." He began but was cut off by her.
"No, I'm ok with it, it's just that it must have cost you a lot."
"Don't worry about that. You're worth this and more." He said as he walked her to the harbor.
Kelly felt butterflies in her stomach. No guy has done anything for her let alone something like this. Before they got on the yacht Kelly put her shoes back on and Derek began to tell her something.
"I just want to show you how much I like you. You are nice, smart, beyond beautiful, brave, funny and caring. I don't think I'll ever find a girl like you. You are one of a kind."
Kelly smiled and felt her face getting red so she looked down. Derek put his hand under her chin and gently brought it up.
"And I hope you know that." He said.
She looked into his eyes just like he looked into hers. She smiled and he smiled back.
"What do you say about taking this party into the yacht?" She said which made him laugh.
"Yeah, let's go." He said and they both walked onto the yacht.
