The Summer Boyfriend

Chapter Three

"That's a nice way to greet your brother after not seeing him for months." Said Nicholas.
"Who is he?" Derek asked.
Kelly turned to face Derek as she spoke.
"It's my older brother Nicholas." Then she turned around to face Nicholas while pointing at Derek. "Nicholas this is Derek."
Nicholas and Derek shook hands as Kelly stood there watching them.
"And who is Derek?"
"He's a friend visiting from New York."
"Well Derek from New York, do you always dance like that with your friends?"
"Nick!"
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding."
Kelly looked back at Derek hoping he wasn't put off by Nicholas. Luckily he was smiling.
"Well Kelly probably didn't mention me so I'll tell you a little bit about myself."
"Is that really necessary?" Kelly asked but Nicholas ignored her and continued on.
"I'm a drummer in a band called 'Silent Mind' and I've been gone for a couple of months but that's not important. What is important is that I have a black belt it taekwondo which means I can take down anyone at anytime in a matter of seconds." Nicholas said with a straight face.
"Ok Nicholas you can stop now." Kelly said as she gets in between him and Derek.
Derek stands there with a confused look in his face and then Nicholas starts laughing. Kelly rolls her eyes at Nicholas and turns to Derek.
"He was just kidding about the black belt. He wouldn't even hurt a fly."
Derek smiles a little as Nicholas apologizes.
"When did you get back?" Kelly asked her brother.
"Just about an hour ago. I went home first then I texted Andrew to see where you were."
Derek saw that they needed sometime alone so he went to get some water.
"So Kelly where did you meet Derek?"
"Um, we met here in the club."
"So are you guys on a date?" Nicholas asked.
"Um, well um... We."
"Is it just y'all?"
"Yeah, kind of."
"Then it is a date."
Kelly was silent. She never talked to her brother about a guy she liked nor did he ever met them.
"Is he treating you right?"
"Yes Nicholas."
"I'm just asking. Want to be a good older brother."
Derek then gets back with three water bottles. He hands one to Kelly and Nicholas.
"Thank you." Said Kelly.
"Thanks. So Kelly told me you guys are on a date."
"Um, yeah but if y'all want to catch up or something I can just."
"No, um."
Nicholas looked at Kelly and saw that he was embarrassing her.
"No look. I'm going to go now and my sister and I can catch up tomorrow or something."
"Are you sure?" Derek asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure. Just treat her right, ok? She's my sister and I would hate for someone to hurt her."
Kelly's cheeks got red and she couldn't believe what her brother was saying to Derek.
"I wouldn't even think about hurting her." Derek said.
Kelly smiled when she heard Derek say that. It made her feel all mushy inside.
"Ok, and I don't want her coming home late."
"Nicholas." Kelly said as a way of telling him to leave.
"I'll make sure she gets home safely and not too late." Derek said.
"Alright then. Y'all have fun but not too much fun." Nicolas said while looking at both of them..
"Okay Nicholas." Kelly said as Nicholas finally leaves.
"Your brother sure did laid down the law."
Kelly laughed a little. "Yeah, I'm sorry about that."
"No it's fine I understand. Brother wants to protect his little sister, and I am okay with that."
All the worries and nervousness that Kelly was feeling started to drift away.
"So, are you in collage?"
"I'm going to be. I start collage in two months."
"Nice. Are you excited?"
"Surprisingly, yes."
"And why is that?"
"Because I will be living in a dorm room."
"That's what you're excited for?" He said with a little chuckle.
"Well obviously that's not the only reason, but yeah I'm excited for that. Living alone is not fun. I live with my brother but since he's always touring, he's hardly ever home."
"Oh."
"I know it's silly."
"No it's not. I know what you mean. I live alone and I guess that's why I love to travel. I like to get out of that lonely place."
"Yeah! That's why I'm always at the beach." She said while smiling.
They stayed looking at each other for a while until Derek spoke up.
"You know what I told your brother is true. I would never think about hurting you in any kind of way."
She sat there without saying a word, but keeping eye contact with him.
"I barely know you but yet feel like I've known you my whole life." He said and she chuckled a little.
"I know I know, sounds cheesy but it's true." He told her.
She looked around to try and hind the fact that she was blushing but she turned back around when she felt a hand above hers. She looked at him who had a closed smile on his face.
"I can't help it Kelly. I can't help but like you."
Her eyes widened a little and then he spoke again.
"If you don't feel the same, I understand. You probably have so many other guys after you." He said with a frown on his face.
She thought to her, are you serious? She took a deep breath and spoke after she felt his hand move off of hers.
"I like you too." She said and he smiled at her.
"So if I ask you on another date, you'll say yes?"
"Maybe." She said while smiling at him.
"Ok, how about dinner tomorrow?"
"Um, yeah. Dinner tomorrow sounds good."
"So is 7:00 ok?
"Yeah."
He smiled and then pulled her out to dance. After several songs they went to the bar for a drink.
"Can I have some Coke please?" Kelly asked the bartender.
"I'll have the same thing." Derek said.
"You're not going to get any alcohol?"
"No. I get sick just thinking about drinking alcohol. I guess that's what happens when you go overboard when you turn 21."
The bartender handed them two cans of coke and then they went back to their seats.
"I have never danced so much in my life." Kelly said.
"Yeah I still can't feel my feet. It feels like I'm just floating on air." Derek said making Kelly laugh.
"You have a pretty smile." Derek said while smiling.
"Thank you. You do too." She said.
"Tell me."
"Tell you what?" She asked.
"Tell me why a stunning girl like you doesn't have a boyfriend."
She looked down nervously and moments later answered.
"I don't know."
"There must be something you're not telling me."
Kelly was thinking of a good answer for a while until it came to her.
"Okay the truth is, I'm a vampire." Kelly said and he laughed.
"I sucked the blood out of all the guys that were chasing me and now their die." She said sarcastically.
"Okay now I'm sure that's not it." Derek said while laughing.
Kelly looked at her phone to check the time and saw that it was almost midnight. A couple minutes later she got a text from Jessica saying that they were waiting in their car for her.
"I'm sorry Derek but I have to go. It's getting pretty late."
"Ok, let me walk you out." He said as he stood up.
They walked out and as Kelly was walking to Jessica's car she felt someone pull her back. As she turned around she found herself face-to-face with Derek.
"I just wanted to say that I had a really great time tonight." He said.
"I had a good time too." She said.
"Well I'm glad. I'll see you tomorrow night, and good night." He said to her.
"Good night." She said as he hugged her.
He gave her a kiss on the cheek which made her face red. Then he kiss her in the forehead which made her smile. Then he looking into her eyes and started getting closer to her lips. She froze but it's not like she wanted to move away anyways. Before she knew it, she felt soft lips pressed against hers. He slowly loosen his grip on her and broke the kiss.
"I just couldn't help myself."
Kelly smiled as they said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.
She started walking towards Jessica's car that was just around the corner. Suddenly a drunk man comes out of nowhere and pushes her towards the wall.
"Hey sugar. Now that your boyfriend is gone maybe we can get this party going." The man said while holding her against the wall.
"Stop! Let GO!" She screamed.
"What's wrong baby. You don't want to play?" He said.
"Get off of me you dirty creep!" She said as she pushed him off and ran towards Jessica's car.
Just as she thought it was over he grabbed her by her hair and started pulling her towards his car. She tried hitting him but he didn't stop dragging her. She screamed hoping somebody would hear her and help but no one heard her. When he got to his van he swung the door open and try pushing her in. She kicked and screamed until she felt someone tackle him off of her. She turned around and saw that it was Derek on top of the man.
"Call the cops Kelly! Call them now!" He yelled to her as the man fought to get away from Derek.
She was shaking really bad but managed to get her phone out and call the police. Derek stayed on top of the man holding him down keeping the him from escaping.
"You'll going to get locked up for a long time you sick bastard!" Derek yelled at the drunk.
About five minutes later the cops arrived. They arrested the man and found out that he was wanted for sexual assault and burglary.
The police thanked Derek and then soon left. Derek walked towards Kelly and hugged her. Kelly's emotions finally got the best of her and she started crying. Jessica walked towards them while watching the police car drive off.
"What the hell happened?" Jessica asked Kelly.
Kelly opened at her mouth to tried to say something but nothing came out.
"Some jackass tried to take her in his van." Derek said angrily.
"What?" Jessica said confused.
"He was trying to pull her in his van to do who knows what with her. I push him off of her and held him down until they came"
"Oh Kelly are you alright. Did he hurt you?" She asked Kelly.
Kelly tried once again to speak but again nothing came out.
"I'm going to take her home, she needs to sleep and forget about what just happened." Jessica said to Derek.
"Yeah. Alright." Derek said sounding worried.
Jessica put Kelly's arm over her shoulders and walked to her car. Once Andrew saw Jessica helping Kelly walk, he got out the car to ask what happened.
"This bastard tried to take her." Jessica said.
"Did he get away?"
"No, Derek held him down until the cops came to get him."
Jessica put Kelly in her seat and then she got in the car. Andrew drove them to Kelly' s place. When they got there Andrew helped Kelly walk while Jessica opened the apartment door.
"Nicholas!" Jessica called out and he soon came running to the door.
He saw Andrew holding Kelly up.
"What happened?"
Jessica explained everything and decided to stay the night with Kelly. She didn't want to leave her after what happened. Andrew said goodbye to everyone and then left. Jessica laid her down on the couch and Nicholas sat next to her.
"Kelly, please talk to me." Nicholas said.
Kelly turned to face him but she didn't say anything.
"Kelly, I need to know if you are alright?"
Kelly stayed silent.
"I don't think she is going to talk right now. She just needs some time." Jessica said.
Nicholas stayed staring at Kelly while Jessica was running her fingers through Kelly's hair. All of a sudden Kelly got up and spoke.
"I'm going to take a shower." Kelly said softly.
Jessica and Nicholas watched her walk into the bathroom.
"So if Derek wasn't there, we would have lost her?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry. I should've been there with her." Jessica said.
"Even if you were with her, you wouldn't be able to stop it. You would've been another one of his victims. I have to say thanks to Derek, he is the reason why she's here with us."
When Kelly got of the shower he asked for Derek's number and he called him to thank him. After that Nicholas said good night to the girls and went to sleep because he was going to leave early the next day. Kelly seemed a little better when she got out of the shower. She seemed more relaxed. Jessica and Kelly laid on Kelly's bed to watch TV. Kelly got a text from Derek asking if she was alright. She texted him back with a, yes thank you. They stayed up for about an hour before falling asleep.

"Wake up Kelly."
Kelly rubbed her eyes and slowly began to open them.
"Kelly, wake up."
Kelly opened her eyes and the first thing she sees is Jessica staring at her.
"How are you feeling?" Jessica asked.
"Not so good."
"Why? Are you sick? Are you swore?"
"No. I don't feel so good because you woke me up." Kelly said.
"I'm sorry. It's just that I've been up for two hours waiting for you to wake up."
Kelly seemed a little confused because Jessica never wakes up early so that must mean it was late.
"What time is it?"
"1:00."
Kelly sprung up from her laying position.
"In the afternoon?"
"Yeah."
"I have never slept in this late before."
Kelly remembered about the plans they made for that day. She jumped out of bed and opened her closet.
"What are you doing?" Jessica asked.
"I'm getting ready. Remember we had plans."
"Well yeah I remember but I didn't think you be up for it."
"No I'm good. Besides I want to go buy some pepper spray."
"Really? Cool, we can get the cute pink ones." Jessica said and Kelly laughed.
"I'm glad you are feeling better." Jessica said.
"I am too."
Kelly felt like what happened last night was a nightmare. She couldn't wrap her mind around the idea of that happening to her. She just shoved the memory out of her mind and tried to forget it. Jessica waited for Kelly to get ready and then they went to eat lunch which is breakfast for Kelly.
"So we still have time to get our nails done and shop a little."
"Sounds good but we have to be back before 7:00." Kelly said.
"Why? What is happening at 7:00?"
"I'm going out to dinner with Derek."
"No way!" Jessica said while smiling wide.
"Yes." Kelly said laughing a little.
"He asked you on a date?"
"Um well..." Kelly started to say before being cut off by Jessica.
"I can tell that he likes you a lot. You guys would actually make a cute couple. And after what he did for you, I mean like saving your life."
"Can we not talk about that please."
"Of course I'm sorry. But y'all would be cute together." 
Kelly smile turned into a little frown.
"But there is one small problem." Said Kelly.
"What?"
"He doesn't live here. He lives in New York."
"New York?"
"Yeah so we can't be together."
"But you want to be?"
"Yeah but..." Kelly started saying but was then interrupted by Jessica.
"Then why not be together?"
"Jessy it's not that simple. I hardly know him and I don't want to be in a long distance relationship."
"How long is he staying?" Jessica asked.
"About a month."
"Maybe that's enough time for him to fall in love with you and move here."
"I don't know. I don't want to think about relationships right now. For now it's just a date." Kelly said.
"For now." Jessica said with a smirk on her face.
Kelly smiled a little thinking about what he said last night. She was thinking about how he said that he liked her and she told him that she liked him too. Maybe Jessica is right, Kelly thought to herself. After they finished eating lunch they went to the spa to get their nails done. Jessica and Kelly both wanted French Tips. While sitting they looked at magazines and the movie they were playing on the TV. Kelly's phone rang and she carefully pick it out of her purse. She saw that it was a text for Derek that said, Hope your day is going good. She texted him back saying that her day was going good and he responded saying that he couldn't wait for dinner that night. She blushed a little and Jessica saw it.
"Did he say something sweet?" Jessica asked.
"Yes Jessy. He did."
"You guys are so cute." Jessica said and they both giggled.
After being at the spa for two hours just talking and sitting, their nails were done. They went to a store that sold weapons and both of them were a little scared. None of them ever been in a store like that but Kelly was determined to get pepper spray and Jessica knowing what happened also wanted some. They went to the clerk and paid for their pepper spray and then walked out of the store feeling a little more secure.
"Just having pepper spray makes me feel better." Said Kelly.
"Yeah, I would like to see someone try me." Said Jessica while Kelly laughed.
Kelly's phone started ringing and she saw that Matt was calling her.
"Hey Matt." She said as she answered the phone.
"Hey I heard what happened, are you alright?" He asked.
"Yes thanks for asking, it was quite a scare but I'm feeling better now."
"I'm glad to hear that. So what are you doing today?"
"Im hanging out with Jessica now but later I'm going to dinner with Derek."
"With who?"
"The guy I met at the club the other night."
"Oh yeah. On a date?"
"Yes." Kelly said as she chuckled.
"Well then I'll let you go. Just wanted to make sure you were alright and I know you girls always want to take the whole day to get ready of a date." Matt said.
"Oh shut up." Said Kelly sarcastically.
"Ok well bye. Tell Jessica I said hey."
"Hey Matt and bye Matt!" Yelled Jessica towards Kelly phone so Matt can hear her.
"Bye!" Yelled Matt.
"Bye Matt." Said Kelly as she hung out.
They decided to drive back to Kelly's just to hang out. Jessica called Andrew to say that she and Kelly were fine and that she won't get back home till later that day. Kelly put on the TV and then called her brother to see where he was.
"Hey Kelly, how are you feeling." He said as he answered the phone.
"I'm alright."
"That's good."
"Yeah but Nicholas, where are you at?"
"Oh I'm at one of my bandmates house, just practicing."
"When are you coming home?"
"I wish I could say but I can't. I... I just don't know."
"Ok well you told me that we were going to catch up today."
"I know but...."
"You have been away for months and when you come back, you're still away."
"Look Kelly I..."
"You don't want to talk to your little sister. I'm not cool enough for you?"
"Kelly that ridiculous."
"Then please come home."
Kelly was really in need of her brother. After what happened the night before, she needed her big brother to hug and comfort her. He's the only family she has.
"I can't Kelly." Nicholas said which made Kelly's blood boil.
"You obviously don't care about anybody but yourself."
"Look Kelly I am trying to work hard to pay for these bills! I'm not playing around, I'm working! I'm glad to see that you're back to your annoying self!" Yelled Nicholas before he hung up.
"I hate him!" Kelly yelled.
