WEDNESDAY

INT.SCENE 6: Ben Maree hostel.

(Ross arrives at 8 a.m., parks the police van and goes inside where the three Doctors are seated around a table finishing breakfast).

ROSS: Good morning folks.

NIKKI: Good morning Ross. (the others say good morning too) Would you like a cup of tea?

ROSS: No thanks Doc. I have already eaten. Did you manage to have a comfortable night?

NIKKI: Yes Ross, it's surprisingly comfortable here.

ROSS: I'm glad it was to your liking.

NIKKI: I've never stayed at a youth hostel before. I would certainly recommend this one to anyone. Thanks for booking it, Ross.

ROSS: You're welcome, Doctor.

STEVIE: We've stayed in a few hostels and they are surprisingly comfortable.

CASSIE: So what is on the menu today, Nikki?

NIKKI: We need to investigate those handbags and purses, to see if there are any clues to their identities.

STEVIE: I've never known any woman who doesn't carry everything around with her in her handbag.

CASSIE: I don't carry all my worldly goods around with me.

STEVIE: You do at home, honey.

CASSIE: Oh, I suppose I do at home, you're right.

NIKKI: What did you do with the video camera, Ross?

ROSS: We sent it on the overnight train to Glasgow as you instructed, Doctor.

NIKKI: Good man. Hopefully, we shall get a result from it.

STEVIE: I still can't fathom why Glenda & Maree would stay in a caravan if this hostel was so close.

ROSS: I can easily answer that Doc.

STEVIE: Please tell me... I've been trying to figure it out all night.

ROSS: This hostel, as with many others is only open during British Summertime. From the last Sunday in March until the last Sunday of October each year.

If Glenda & Maree stayed here all year round they would need alternative accommodation during the winter months.

STEVIE: That should explain it then.

NIKKI: However the caravan didn't have running water. They would have had to come here to refill water bottles and to bathe a few times a week. Ask around Ross, someone must have seen them?

ROSS: We're working on it. Nobody remembers them. If we had a few photos then it might jog a few memories.

CASSIE: What about the winter months?

ROSS: If they had any sense they would have gone home then. The hostel closes... the general store closes. Nothing much moves around here in the winter.

STEVIE: How do you manage? Ross.

ROSS: Don't tell my Sergeant, but I can pick up groceries from the city or larger towns or from neighbouring villages whenever the local stores are closed, in my van.

CASSIE: Other local people would have to make similar arrangements?

ROSS: Precisely... We manage as we must.

STEVIE: If we assume the girls were here during the summer then someone must have seen them... if they were also here in the winter what would they do?
