Chapter 4: NO!

A few months later

Lily held Harry close, Dumbledore had asked to meet them to discuss some important news with them. Sirius was there with Remus cuddling anxiously. James was there trying but failing to sit still.

Suddenly the fire flickered and turned blue. Dumbledore stepped out with a grave expression. 'Sit down Lily, Sirius and Remus if you could step out please' he said.

Lily froze in worry what could be so serious that not even the marauders could hear. Sirius smiled and gave Lily a quick hug 'it's alright red we're just outside'.

Lily was near tears but she smiled determinedly. 'Thanks Paddy' she said. Remus gave Harry a kiss and James a hug. 'The signal is stag, alright Prongs?'.

James nodded weakly as Lily sat at his side with Harry on her lap. Harry cooed at Dumbledore 'Dumbly' he said softly. Lily smiled and clapped quietly 'well done Harry, your learning a new word everyday baby' she said proudly and held him closer.

'Lily this may come as a surprise and not a very good one at that, but Voldemort has found out about Harry' he said gently. Lily froze. Was that it! He knew her son existed! She sighed in relief 'is that all?' She asked smiling.

'I'm afraid not theirs a prophecy about your son, a boy born in July, Voldemort has heard the prophecy and plans to kill the boy' Dumbledore continued. Lily was too shocked to even scream.

James was suddenly angry. 'Our Harry! Why our bloody Harry! It's not right it's not fair! It can't be him!' He was shouting. He couldn't bare to think of loosing the person he loved most in the world.

Tears had started rolling down Lily's cheeks 'nonononono' she was repeating to herself cuddling Harry close. Harry wiped her tears and laughed making Lily cry harder.

'Their is hope however' Dumbledore said 'I assume you know the fidelious charm? Yiu will have to choose a secret keeper, I volunteer completely I think someone close to you would be too, how do I say obvious'.

James had calmed down not because of hope because someone had to be strong for his wife and child. He shook his head 'no thank you Albus, not that I don't trust you it's just that your so famous, you must be some kind of target for death eaters?' James said.

Dumbledore protested but James wouldn't hear of it. Finally Dumbledore agreed 'I'll give you some time to think it over' he smiled weakly and stepped out feeling terrible for thsi small family.

'He's gone' James said and Sirius and Remus burst in. 'Prongs! What happened?' Sirius asked giving him a hug. 'Harry is in danger'

The words echoed in Sirius's mind, his Godson the light of his life, in danger? He could've screamed but he was too shocked. Remus had taken Harry off Lily but nearly dropped him when he heard.

'Voldemort's after him' Lily sobbed and James told the story. Sirius took Harry in his arms 'I'll miss you little guy' he said and hugged him tightly.

'Your sacrificing him!' James yelled. Sirius laughed slightly 'no Prongs I won't be able to visit you with this fidelious charm' he said. James looked confused 'you'll be secret keeper of course?' James said.

Sirius shook his head 'no way James they'll suspect me it's got to be someone they wouldn't think you'd pick'. James thought suddenly a thought hit him 'what about Peter!'
Nobody would think this small cowardly boy would be picked so it was perfect.

When James and Lily asked him he seemed overjoyed. 'Of course James, you too Lily I will make sure to keep you safe, oh he'll be happy with this he will' he muttered the last part to James confusion.
