Here Comes The Hard Part

Lexie and Mark were laying in the on call room together, Lexie was sleeping while next to her was a fully awake Mark deep in thought. He was thinking about how he wasn't good enough for Lexie and he couldn't deal with a long term relationship, he would just mess it up.
Soon after his that Lexie's pager went off and she awoke giving mark a kiss on the cheek as Mark, now fully aware of what he had to do, said "See you later, I have to talk to you about something" Lexie had noticed that he had been acting strange the past couple days, and now this. She was concerned that he wanted to end whatever they were but quickly brushed off that thought and instead said in a questioning tone "Okay, meet at Joe's?" He gave a simple nod as she walked out the on-call room door.

It was 8:45 when Lexie had arrived at Joe's, she told Mark to meet her there at 9:00 but she wanted to be early so she could get a couple drinks in before he told her whatever news he had. When she went up to the bar she saw Mark already there, weird. She went a little closer to see what he was doing, when she was about ten feet from him she heard him flirting with a kind of short blonde. She decided to not make it a big deal because he was Mark Sloan after all, it's not like he would drop all of his old habits so soon, as long as he didn't cheat on her she was fine.
She still wanted to cause some chaos though because, you know she didn't like the fact that he was flirting with other girls. She came over and tapped him on the shoulder, he looked over calmly but once he saw it was her he got startled and jumped a little bit. "Heyyyy Lexie, weren't we supposed to meet at 9:00?"
Mark said nervously, "Yeah I just wanted to get a couple of drinks in, you?" Lexie said, loving all the power she had over him right now. "Oh, just umm..... same as you" Mark stated "Okay well let's go sit down then" Lexie said as she looked over at the blonde who looked more confused than she did a couple moments ago. They sat down as Lexie said "You know I am just messing with you right, I don't expect you to give up all your old habits for me."  Here Comes the Hard Part Mark thought as he was now going to give up the one person who truly loved him, "About that Lexie..." he took a moment to just look at her and savor their last moments happy together "What is it Mark, your starting to scare me" she said with worry in her tone as she placed her hand on his "We need to break-up, I know everybody says this, but it's not you, I promise it's just me" He slowly pulled his hand back as Lexie looked at him with betrayal in her eyes, she couldn't do this, this couldn't be happening, not now, not here, not ever. "Why" was the only work she could utter out as tears were now flowing down her face freely. He stayed silent but she wanted to know, so again she said, but a bit louder "Why!" He could bear to look at her, as he lifted his head and saw her pain, all he wanted to do is pull her in his arms and say everything will be alright, but he couldn't he knew that would just hurt her more.
When she knew he wasn't going to answer her, she walked out of the bar without a word. He hated seeing her like this but he knew it was the right thing to do. Little did he know he just hurt her ten times worse than he could have ever done doing anything else.
