Lindir was beside himself with worry. Word had gotten back to him that, while out scouting, you and the other scouts had been ambushed by orcs. Now you were missing. For three weeks there had been no word from you. Lindir had no doubt in his mind that you were dead. He could feel himself becoming despondent. You were his love and now you were gone. That didn't stop him from searching for you whenever Lord Elrond allowed it.
Lindir searched and searched, each day his heart breaking a little bit more. It was if you'd simply vanished. Other than your weapons that had been found on the ground, there was no trace of you. Lindir wasn't as good as fighting as other elves, but he was determined to find you. No matter the cost. And finally, after nearly two moons, Lindir got his wish.
He heard it before he saw it. A fight. The scouts took off in the direction with Lindir right on their heels. His heart was pounding in his chest as the sound of an orc's shriek cut through the night air. It didn't take them long to find the source of the din. And there, standing in the middle of it all was you. You had somehow managed to obtain one of the orc's weapons and you were using it to your advantage.
Lindir froze for a moment when he saw you. Your face was coated in dirt, but you were alive. That was Lindir's main focus. You were alive. However, you were also outnumbered. You wouldn't remain alive very long if Lindir and the scouts didn't get in there to help you. With that in mind, Lindir leapt into action. While he wasn't a fighter, he was going to protect you for as long as he could.
Lindir felt your eyes on him for a brief moment but the short battle continued. Lindir wanted to say something to you, but he didn't want to distract you from the fight. He only hoped you weren't hurt too badly. It didn't take long for the battle to over though and, when it was, Lindir was right there at your side.
"Are you alright, Melamin?" You gave him a small smile between pants. "I am alive." Lindir frowned at that. "Y/N..." You let out a sigh before shaking your head. "No. I'm not alright. I was taken and a few of my scouts were killed." Lindir took your hands in his. "Are you hurt?" You nodded. Without waiting a moment, Lindir scooped you up and carried you to his horse, with your half-hearted protests echoing in his ears. His only thought was getting you back to Imladris and the healers.
Lindir held you tightly against him, earning a light "thank you" from you. He held you a little closer until you made it back home. He refused to leave your side until the healers ushered him out of the room. You kicked up a fuss as soon as he was out the door though. While you were in fact injured, you were still feisty and you wanted Lindir with you. It was to the point that the healers eventually had no choice but to allow Lindir back in, if only to calm you down.
When the healers finished their work, they let you retire to your own chambers, but only if Lindir escorted you. He didn't wait a moment before agreeing. After being apart and not knowing what had happened to you for so long, Lindir wasn't too keen on leaving your sight. He had to make sure you stayed safe. To that end, he watched you like a hawk. It made you laugh.
"You do not need to stay by my side, Melamin. I am fine." Lindir shook his head and you laughed again. "I lost you. I could feel it in my heart every day you were missing. I do not wish to feel that way again." Your heart broke hearing these words from him. You had felt it too, of course. You thought you would die out there and your heart had hurt so much for Lindir if you had died.
"My Lindir. Melamin. Come here." Lindir hesitated briefly, but the pull he felt towards you won out. He slid into the bed next to you and let you wrap your arms around him. "I love you," you whispered, "I apologize for what I put you through. I will be more careful in the future." Lindir rested his head on your chest and nodded. "Thank you," he replied, "I love you, Y/N." Lindir wasn't acting like himself. He knew that. But he needed to be close to you. He needed to be near you if only to ensure that the nightmare was indeed over. You could take care of yourself, but Lindir wanted to take care of you too.
You began humming a tune, one of Lindir's favorites, as the sun started setting. The two of you didn't need to say anything else in that moment. Right now, you both simply needed the comfort of one another. You needed to just be still, wrapped up in each other, away from the outside world if only for a little while.
