The Day It Began

"Ivy!" Andy yelled, wrapping his arms around my stomach, dragging me away into an empty class room and shutting the door.

"No!" I protested, trying to open the door but got dragged away again.

"Don't. Ivy. It's dangerous" Andy said trying to calm me down, holding my shoulders.

"It's not him! It can't be real! It's a trick!" I sobbed. I so wanted it to be a trick, Luke was my best friend, I knew I would lose him someday but not like this.

"Look at him Ivy. He's as dead as roadkill. He's moving but he's gone" He tried to convince me that the worst had happened. I looked away at Luke who was trying to claw his way through the window into the class room. "He's missing some of his neck, either that's an illusion or very good makeup..but I'm guessing it's real" Andy pointed out, his voice was trembling and my sobs were wavering, how can this be happening? This stuff only happens in the movies, it's a fucking dream but I can feel every bit of it.

I pulled myself away and walked slowly and cautiously up to the window where the once alive Luke was viscously gnawing at the glass. Fresh tears ran down my face, it was Luke, he was wearing the necklace his ex boyfriend gave him, he loved it but hated him. I can't have lost my Luke.

"How is this real?..How am I not dreaming?" I asked rhetorically. I knew it was real and I knew I wasn't dreaming, but how is this happening now?

After a while, the walking dead Luke turned and walked away, giving up. My breathing grew heavy as the suspicious silence settled in. Where did he go?

"Is the door locked?" I asked Andy, not turning around.

"Shit!" He cursed, grabbed the key on the desk then rammed the door shut, just as Luke tried to get in. I shuddered when a hand fell to the floor that had been sliced clean off when Andy shut the door.

"His...fucki-ng hand" I pointed a shaking finger, then fell into one of the chairs when my legs couldn't hold me.

"Fucking disgusting" Andy exclaimed, kicking the hand away. After Luke's pain-filled screams had faded away, we looked out the window to see a couple more zombies enter the broken down doors to the school. After our shared shocked silence I spoke.

"What the FUCK do we do now?!" I said panicking slightly. Cut me a bit if slack, it's not everyday a zombie invasion happens at school. When Andy didn't answer, I said it for him. "We try and get out?" I suggested.

"What?! We'd die! ..Or be turned" He said, holding the back of his head as if it would come off.

"I need to find Issy! She's the most important thing to me! I can't let her die!" I shouted, wiping away more terrified tears.

"Who?" Andy asked.

"My little sister! She's like a daughter to me! I can't let her get hurt!" I replied.

"Well what about your family?" Andy questioned me.

"I couldn't give a fucking shit if my mum's head gets ripped off and my dad's in another fucking country so I'm not bothered about them to be honest!" I shouted, taking a deep breath afterwards so I could calm down and think straight.

Andy paused before speaking. "I'm sorry.." Was all he said. I turned away to think so I wouldn't get distracted by him. I need to get Issy. I want her life to be perfect. Fine, this happening could be a small blip but in the future, she won't need to even remember it. I knew what I had to do.. I swung round to the window to see the same zombies attacking students that left their class to see if this was real and some trying to knock down doors so they could get to the people inside.
